XLPE Wire
XLPE AWM wire uses cross-linked polyethylene as the insulation material — a thermosetting insulation that, unlike PVC, does not soften or deform at its rated temperature because the cross-linking process creates permanent chemical bonds between polymer chains. This non-softening property makes XLPE wire the preferred upgrade from PVC for motor lead, control panel, and equipment internal wiring applications where the enclosure ambient temperature, motor heat, or continuous high current loading pushes the wire surface temperature above the reliable operating range of PVC insulation.
CableApex produces XLPE AWM wire under UL Follow-Up Service File No. E333030, covering four temperature grades from 105°C to 150°C. All styles comply with RoHS and REACH and are available from 30 AWG to 4/0 AWG with tinned or bare stranded copper conductor.
| UL Style | Voltage | Temperature | Primary application |
|---|---|---|---|
| UL 3666 | 600V AC | 105°C | Value XLPE grade — upgrade from PVC for moderate high-temp applications |
| UL 3271 | 600V AC | 90°C | Standard motor lead wire — LV induction motor terminal connections |
| UL 3266 | 600V AC | 125°C | Motor leads for Class F/H motors, high-ambient industrial applications |
| UL 3321 | 600V AC | 150°C | Highest-temperature XLPE grade — data centre generator feeds, UPS leads |
