Available UL 5334 Wire Constructions

The UL Style scope covers 24 AWG through 4 AWG, in solid or stranded construction. The insulation requirements fall into two thickness groups. At 24 through 12 AWG, the minimum average composite mica glass thickness is 17 mils with a 5 mils minimum average treated glass braid. At 11 through 4 AWG, the mica increases to 20 mils with a 10 mils minimum average braid. The glass braid is treated with either silicone varnish or a TFE finish, and an optional stainless steel alloy 304 braid may be applied over it where the design calls for an additional outer braid.

Beyond those Style-level figures, the construction is defined at order stage. Conductor material and plating, detailed stranding, finished outside diameter, insulation colour, wire marking, packaging format and the documents supplied with a shipment are all confirmed by quotation. Not every combination of AWG, conductor construction, braid option and packaging is continuously stocked — where a requested combination has not previously been produced, confirm feasibility during enquiry rather than assuming availability from the Style scope alone.

The product cards below represent different purchasing situations, market contexts and ordered constructions within the same UL Style 5334 scope. They differ in how the construction is specified and in the commercial terms attached to a particular order, not in the underlying Style rating.

Protected Wiring for Ovens and Similar Equipment

The UL Style 5334 file states the use as wiring of ovens or similar high-temperature equipment, where protected from mechanical abuse, and where acceptability — including current-carrying capacity — has been determined for the applicable construction and equipment.

Two conditions in that statement matter at specification stage. The wire path must be protected from mechanical abuse along its full routed length by the equipment structure. And the Style rating on its own does not establish that a given construction is acceptable for a given installation, including its current-carrying capacity at the operating temperature — that determination is made for the applicable equipment and the specific construction ordered. Confirm that the intended use falls within this boundary before specifying a construction from this category.

UL Marking and Order Documentation

UL 5334 is supplied as a UL Recognized Component — file on record. Only products bearing the applicable UL Mark should be represented as covered products.

The product construction actually produced, the UL marking applied, and the documents accompanying a shipment must all be confirmed within the applicable certified scope before production. Where RoHS, REACH or other compliance documents are required, specify them during enquiry so their availability can be confirmed for the ordered construction. Minimum order quantity, sample availability, packaging, delivery schedule and documentation are confirmed in the quotation rather than fixed in advance.
