UL 5476 Mica Wire

UL 5476 Mica Wire — 450°C · 600V AC · Mica Tape Glass Braid · 30 AWG – 4/0 AWG

UL AWM Style 5476 is a mica tape insulated wire with a glass braid outer covering, rated at 450°C and 600V AC under UL Subject 758, Section 5. The insulation uses mica tape wraps with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or TFE finish as the outer covering. An optional binder layer may be applied between the mica tape and glass braid. An optional nickel or nickel-coated copper shield (36–30 AWG Type “A”) may also be applied. Both single-conductor and multiple-conductor cabled assemblies are available under this style.

The permitted use is internal wiring where the wire is not subjected to repeated flexing and is protected from mechanical abuse, and where the acceptability — including current-carrying capacity — has been determined by UL. Typical protected internal wiring contexts include high-temperature industrial ovens, furnaces, kilns, and thermal processing equipment where the circuit voltage requires the 600V rating and the wire routing environment requires the 450°C temperature class. Application suitability is subject to equipment design, routing conditions, mechanical protection, and current-carrying requirements — confirm at enquiry stage.

For glass braid 450°C mica wire at 600V with optional stainless steel alloy 304 shield, see UL 5107 or UL 5335. For 600V mica wire with dual temperature options (200°C or 450°C) from 30 AWG, see UL 5359. For 300V mica wire from 30 AWG, see UL 5360.
