UL 5128 Mica Wire

UL 5128 Mica Wire — 450°C · 300V AC · Mica Tape or Mica Composite with Glass Braid

UL AWM Style 5128 is a mica tape or mica composite insulated wire with a glass braid outer covering, rated at 450°C and 300V AC under UL Subject 758, Section 5. The insulation uses non-extruded mica tape wraps — or a mica composite construction per the facing page — with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or TFE finish as the outer covering. An optional stainless steel alloy 304 braid shield may be applied over the treated glass braid. Both single-conductor and multiple-conductor cabled assemblies are available under this style.

The permitted use is internal wiring of high-temperature equipment where the wire is not subjected to repeated flexing and is protected from mechanical abuse, and where the acceptability — including current-carrying capacity — has been determined by UL. Typical protected internal wiring contexts include high-temperature ovens, kilns, and furnace enclosures where the circuit voltage is within the 300V AC limit. Application suitability is subject to equipment design, routing conditions, mechanical protection, and current-carrying requirements — confirm at enquiry stage.
