UL 5335 Mica Wire Products

This page groups the available UL Style 5335 product pages. UL Style 5335 is a single or multiple conductor construction with non-extruded insulation, rated 450°C and 600 Vac, covering 22 AWG to 4/0 AWG. The insulation is mica with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or TFE finish. Two or more insulated conductors may optionally be cabled together, and several metallic braid constructions are listed in the Style file as options.

Conductor material, plating, detailed strand construction, finished dimensions, optional metallic braid, assembly details, marking, packaging and required documents are not fixed at Style level — all are confirmed by quotation for the specific ordered construction. Note that the mica and treated glass braid thickness bands do not align across the full range: the Style file specifies 32 mils mica for 2–4/0 AWG, while the 15 mils treated glass braid figure applies to 3–4/0 AWG. Confirm the applicable figures for your specific AWG at enquiry.

Available UL 5335 Wire Constructions

The UL Style scope covers 22 AWG through 4/0 AWG. Conductor form is bounded by size: 22 through 8 AWG may be supplied solid or stranded, while sizes larger than 8 AWG are stranded only. The insulation is mica with a treated glass braid, applied at the thickness bands set out above.

Multiple-conductor construction is an option within the Style rather than the default. Where specified, two or more insulated conductors are cabled together within a maximum overall diameter of 1.500 inches, a mica glass binder and fiberglass fillers may be employed, and the assembly carries an overall treated glass braid. Conductor count, assembly outside diameter, binder, fillers and the overall braid are all confirmed for the ordered construction.

The Style file also lists several metallic braid constructions — 36–30 AWG Type A Nickel, 27% minimum nickel-coated copper, nickel-chromium-iron, and stainless steel 304. These are available only where supported by the applicable ordered construction and must be specified at enquiry; none is a default feature of a UL 5335 product.

The Style file does not define a universal conductor material or plating. Conductor material, plating, detailed strand construction, finished dimensions, colour, marking and packaging are established for the applicable ordered construction rather than published as fixed values.

Choose a UL 5335 Mica Wire Product

The product cards below cover different purchasing contexts within the same UL Style 5335 scope. One is a relatively general UL 5335 product page; the others are market-specific purchasing pages covering regional supply and documentation arrangements, with different application and packaging presentations. They differ in commercial context and in how the construction is specified, not in the underlying Style rating.

High-Temperature Internal Wiring Use

The UL Style 5335 file states the use as internal wiring of high-temperature equipment where not subjected to repeated flexing and protected from mechanical abuse, and where the acceptability, including current-carrying capacity, has been determined by Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

Three conditions carry weight in specification. The wire must not be subjected to repeated flexing — this rules out routing paths where the wire moves in normal service. It must be protected from mechanical abuse along its full routed length by the equipment structure. And the acceptability determination, including current-carrying capacity at the operating temperature, is made for the applicable equipment and construction rather than established by the Style rating alone.

Particular ovens, furnaces or thermal processing equipment may be possible equipment contexts, but only subject to design confirmation and order confirmation — they are not universal Style approvals.

UL Marking and Order Documentation

The ordered construction, the applicable certified scope, the actual UL marking applied and the supporting documents must all be confirmed before production. Only products bearing the applicable UL Mark should be represented as covered products.

Where UL, RoHS, REACH or other compliance documents are required, specify them during enquiry so availability can be confirmed for the ordered construction. Minimum order quantity, sample availability, reel length, packaging, delivery schedule and marking are confirmed in the quotation rather than fixed in advance.
