UL 5359 Mica Wire Products

This category groups the available UL Style 5359 product pages. UL Style 5359 is a single or multi-conductor construction with other-than-extruded insulation, rated 200°C or 450°C at 600 Vac, using mica tape insulation with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or PTFE finish. Two points need particular attention when comparing products in this category. First, the applicable temperature rating is either 200°C or 450°C depending on the construction — it is not automatically 450°C, and the rating that applies must be confirmed for the ordered construction and the actual marking. Second, conductor material, plating, detailed stranding, conductor count, finished dimensions, optional shield, optional overall covering, packaging and required documents are all settled during quotation rather than fixed at Style level. These figures apply to the glass braid over the mica tape on each individual insulated conductor. They are separate from the optional overall treated glass braid described below, which applies to a cabled assembly rather than to a single conductor.

Single and Multi-Conductor Constructions

The overall conductor-size range is 30 AWG through 4/0 AWG. Within that range the Style file states solid or stranded construction in sizes 26–8 AWG, and stranded only for sizes larger than 8 AWG. Confirm the exact ordered construction for your specific AWG during quotation rather than inferring it from the overall range.

Multi-conductor construction is optional. Where specified, two or more insulated conductors are cabled together within a maximum overall diameter of 1.500 inches, and a mica glass binder and fiberglass fillers may be employed in the assembly. An optional treated glass braid may be applied over the completed assembly — this is a separate element from the glass braid on each insulated conductor, and it does not change the temperature rating or extend the stated use.

Conductor count, assembly outside diameter, binder and filler arrangement, and the optional overall braid are all confirmed for the ordered construction. The Style file does not define a universal conductor material, plating, strand count, conductor resistance or finished outside diameter — these are settled in the order specification.

Choose a UL 5359 Mica Wire Product

The five product cards below cover different purchasing situations within the same Style scope: one general internal-wiring product page, several market-specific pages covering regional supply and documentation arrangements, both single-conductor and multi-conductor presentations, and one configuration-focused page oriented toward German engineering buyers working through a multi-conductor specification.

They differ in the commercial context and in how the construction is presented, not in the underlying Style parameters. Confirm the applicable temperature rating and the exact construction for whichever page you start from.

Internal Wiring Use and Installation Boundaries

The UL Style 5359 file states the use as internal wiring where not subjected to repeated flexing and protected from mechanical abuse, and where the acceptability, including current-carrying capacity, has been determined by Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

Three conditions apply. The wire must not be subjected to repeated flexing, which rules out routing paths where it moves in normal service. It must be protected from mechanical abuse along its full routed length by the equipment structure. And the acceptability determination, including current-carrying capacity at the operating temperature, is made for the applicable equipment and construction rather than established by the Style rating alone.

Ovens, furnaces and thermal processing equipment may be possible equipment contexts, but only subject to the actual design, routing arrangement, mechanical protection, current requirement and order confirmation. Products in this category are not supplied for field wiring, building wiring, direct heating-element leads, direct flame exposure, open furnace zones or general power distribution.

Optional Shield and Overall Covering

Two optional elements are listed in the Style file beyond the base construction. The optional shield is specified as 36–30 AWG Type A Nickel, or 27% minimum nickel-coated copper. The optional overall covering is a treated glass braid applied over a cabled multi-conductor assembly.

Neither is a standard feature, and each must be requested separately at enquiry. Where either is required, the ordered construction, the element actually applied, the product marking and any supporting documentation must be confirmed before production.

UL Marking and Order Documentation

The ordered construction, the applicable 200°C or 450°C rating, the actual UL marking applied, the applicable certified scope, any optional shield or covering, and the supporting documents must all be confirmed before production. Only products bearing the applicable UL Mark should be represented as covered products.

Where UL, RoHS, REACH or other compliance documents are required, specify them during enquiry so availability can be confirmed for the ordered construction. Minimum order quantity, sample availability, reel length, packaging, marking, delivery schedule and documents are confirmed in the quotation rather than fixed in advance.
