UL1571 Hook-up Wire
UL 1571 Hook-Up Wire — 80°C, 30 Vac, Class 2 Internal Wiring for Electronic Equipment
UL 1571 is a single-conductor appliance wiring material (AWM) with extruded insulation, rated 80°C maximum at 30 Vac with a horizontal flame rating, evaluated under UL Subject 758. Its defining characteristic is the permitted use: internal wiring of Class 2 circuits in electronic equipment, which makes it the go-to style for low-voltage signal and control conductors inside consumer electronics, instrumentation and similar equipment where circuit energy is inherently limited. CableApex supplies UL 1571 as a UL Recognized Component — file on record — from 50 AWG fine-gauge conductors up through heavier sizes in solid or stranded construction.
Eight Insulation Material Options in One Style
Unlike most PVC hook-up wire styles that specify a single insulation compound, UL 1571 covers eight insulation variants within the same style number: extruded PVC, SRPVC (silicone-rubber-modified PVC), foamed PVC, foamed SRPVC, cross-linked PVC (XLPVC), cross-linked SRPVC (XLSRPVC), foamed XLPVC and foamed XLSRPVC. Wall thickness ranges from 2 mils minimum at any point up to 100 mils maximum, giving designers wide latitude to balance flexibility, weight and dielectric strength for a given circuit layout. The cross-linked variants offer improved heat and solvent resistance within the 80°C rating; the foamed variants reduce weight and capacitance in dense wiring harnesses; the SRPVC family adds dimensional stability compared with standard PVC under thermal cycling.
Construction Options: Covering, Shield and Jacket
Beyond the insulation layer, UL 1571 supports an optional covering in PVC, Nylon, ETFE, Polyester, their cross-linked equivalents, or lacquered braid, each at 2 mils minimum thickness. An optional shield and optional jacket (same materials as covering) may be applied over the covering. A second optional shield and second optional covering may then follow, enabling multi-layer constructions that combine electromagnetic shielding and mechanical protection within a single UL-recognised component description. Specify the layers required when requesting a quote so that the correct construction is confirmed against the recognised style.
Fine-Gauge Capability and Where UL 1571 Sits in the Portfolio
The conductor specification begins at 50 AWG minimum — finer than the 32 AWG floor of most general-purpose hook-up wire styles — which makes UL 1571 suitable for the very fine-pitch interconnects found in sensors, hearing instruments and miniaturised electronic assemblies. At 30 Vac, it occupies the lowest voltage tier among CableApex’s PVC-family AWM wire: UL 1007 covers 300 Vac general-purpose hook-up wire, and UL 1032 steps up to 1000 Vac / 1200 Vdc for higher-voltage appliance wiring. Where the downstream circuit is a recognised Class 2 circuit, UL 1571 provides the matching component recognition without the heavier insulation wall of a 300 V or 600 V style.
Permitted Use and How to Order
The permitted use for UL 1571 is internal wiring of Class 2 circuits in electronic equipment. Applications outside this scope require separate confirmation of suitability before specifying. Marking follows UL Subject 758 marking requirements; RoHS/REACH documentation is available on request. CableApex supplies UL 1571 from 100 m per insulation variant and color, with B2B inquiries answered within 12 hours with pricing, lead time and construction details.
