UL 3172 Silicone Fiberglass Wire

UL 3172 is a silicone rubber insulated wire with a treated fiberglass braid outer covering, rated 200°C and 600V AC under UL AWM Style 3172, produced under UL Follow-Up Service File No. E333030. UL 3172 shares the same 200°C / 600V electrical rating as UL 3135 bare silicone wire but adds a fiberglass braid outer covering that provides abrasion resistance and mechanical protection at routing contact points — making it the preferred specification wherever the ignition wire is routed through metal conduit, past structural edges, or in contact with hot metal surfaces inside the equipment enclosure.

The fiberglass braid of UL 3172 resists cutting, chafing, and compression at conduit entries and routing clips, and withstands the same 200°C ambient temperature as the silicone insulation beneath it. This makes UL 3172 the standard specification for heating element lead connections, industrial oven internal wiring, and motor leads in vibrating or abrasion-prone enclosure environments. For enclosed routing without abrasion risk, bare UL 3135 is the appropriate specification. Available in 30 AWG to 4/0 AWG, RoHS and REACH compliant.
