UL 1007 18 AWG — Selected Conductor Size Within the Style Range

The 600 V Peak statement is an optional tag marking for electronic-use conditions, not the working voltage rating. The normal rating is 300 Vac.
Specifying 18 AWG
18 AWG is selected when the equipment design calls for this conductor size at the internal lead position in question. Routing constraints, termination hardware, current requirements and the final equipment design all determine whether it is the appropriate size — the conductor size on its own does not establish suitability.
Where 18 AWG is confirmed as the required size, the remaining construction detail is settled at order stage. The UL Style file does not define a conductor material, plating or strand count, so these follow from the order specification rather than from the Style:
- Solid or stranded. Both are within the UL Style 1007 scope. Stranded construction is generally specified where the lead is formed or positioned during assembly; solid is available where the routing path is fixed.
- Conductor finish. Bare or tinned copper is confirmed during quotation. Tinned conductors are commonly specified where the assembly process includes soldering steps or where wire is stored for an extended period before use.
- Colour. Standard colours are available; colour identification across multiple lead positions should be specified as a list with quantity per colour.
- Reel, spool or cut length. Confirm the format your assembly process works with, including any fixed cut length requirement.
Appliance Internal Wiring Applications
The UL Style 1007 file states the use as internal wiring of appliances. At 18 AWG, 80°C and 300 Vac, this construction is typically specified for:
- Protected internal lead connections inside appliance assemblies
- Internal switch and terminal leads within the appliance housing
- Protected internal interconnections where a UL 1007 construction is specified by the equipment design
- OEM appliance production where 18 AWG is a repeated internal lead size across the build
UL Style 1007 is not supplied or positioned as field wiring, building wire, external wiring, general control wiring, power cable or motor lead wire. Suitability for a specific appliance design depends on the equipment, the routing arrangement, the ordered construction and the applicable equipment-level evaluation.
OEM Processing and Harness Production
UL 1007 18 AWG wire can be supplied for OEM harness production where the finished assembly uses the wire as appliance internal wiring. Where harness production is part of your process, settle the following at enquiry:
- Cut-to-length supply. Fixed-length cutting can be arranged where the assembly uses repeated lead lengths.
- Colour identification. Send the colour list with quantity per colour rather than a single total.
- Stripping. Confirm the insulation dimensions so stripper settings can be calibrated to the actual ordered construction.
- Crimping and termination. Confirm the terminal hardware so the conductor construction can be checked against the crimp barrel range.
- Soldering. Where soldering is part of the process, specify a tinned conductor finish at the order stage.
- Reel and spool format. Confirm the format and length your assembly line works with.
Supplying wire for harness production does not change the Style boundary — the finished assembly must be used as appliance internal wiring.
Optional Oil Construction
UL Style 1007 permits an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil construction. This is not a characteristic of all UL 1007 wire — where oil performance is required at the wire location, the optional construction must be specified at enquiry and depends on the qualified ordered construction. Confirm the requirement and the applicable marking before production.
