UL 1015 in 18 AWG for Fixed Internal Appliance Wiring
UL AWM Style 1015 is a single conductor with extruded PVC insulation, with 80°C, 90°C or 105°C rating options, voltage ratings of 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, and a Horizontal Flame designation. The official Use is internal wiring of appliances.
This page is positioned around one conductor size: 18 AWG. It falls within the verified 30–9 AWG group, so the applicable Style-level insulation requirement is 30 mils minimum average with 27 mils minimum at any point.
That single line is the complete extent of what the Style says about 18 AWG specifically. Everything else — conductor material, finish, stranding, dimensions, colour, termination — comes from the drawing and the ordered construction.

18 AWG belongs to the 30–9 AWG group. The complete Style range appears above for accuracy; it does not mean this page covers every conductor size.

The Style Does Not Differentiate Adjacent Sizes
This is worth stating plainly, because it shapes what a size-specific page can honestly claim.
Within the 30–9 AWG group, every conductor size carries identical Style-level requirements. An 18 AWG construction and a 16 AWG construction share the same insulation requirement, the same temperature options, the same voltage ratings, the same permitted conductor forms, the same optional Oil rating and the same Use. The Style record contains no size-specific parameters at all.
So nothing distinguishes 18 AWG from its neighbours at Style level. What distinguishes one ordered wire from another is the construction behind it — the conductor material, the finish, the stranding, the actual conductor diameter and the finished OD, none of which the Style fixes.
The practical consequence: a request reading “UL1015 18 AWG” has identified a size and a Style, and has not yet identified a product.
What the 30/27 Mil Requirement Means
The two figures are separate requirements. The first governs the average across the wall; the second sets a floor at every individual point on it.
Neither is a nominal value. The requirement is not a 30 mil nominal wall, not an exact 30 mil wall, not a guaranteed 0.030-inch dimension and not a uniform insulation thickness. A compliant construction satisfies both minimums without producing one fixed figure.
The finished outside diameter therefore cannot be derived from it, which the dimensional section below returns to.
Why 18 AWG Is Specified
The basis for selecting 18 AWG is documentary: the customer drawing, the existing wire specification, the appliance electrical design, or the approved bill of materials.
No electrical justification is offered here. Style 1015 publishes no ampacity, and no current value is derived from AWG alone. Nothing on this page states that 18 AWG suits a particular current, carries more than a smaller size, is appropriate for a particular motor, heater or control circuit, or occupies a useful middle ground between sizes.
Wire-size suitability is established by the complete appliance design. This page supplies the Style-level requirements that apply once the size has been fixed elsewhere.
No Universal Current Rating
No ampacity is published for Style 1015 in 18 AWG. No maximum amps, continuous current, recommended current, power capacity or wattage figure appears here.
Style 1015 Product iQ defines no universal ampacity, and a current value is not inferred from the conductor size.
18 AWG Appliance Contexts
The commercial contexts this page addresses are 18 AWG fixed internal appliance leads, component-to-component appliance wiring, drawing-controlled internal appliance wiring specifying 18 AWG, internal appliance connections where the drawing calls for 18 AWG, and bulk 18 AWG wire for appliance internal lead production.
Not every appliance uses 18 AWG, and UL does not separately approve any of these examples through the Style. They describe why a buyer arrives at this page, not what the Style certifies.
The official Use does not extend to building wiring, field wiring, branch circuits, tray, conduit, raceway, machine field wiring, control cabinets, external appliance cords or general electrical equipment wiring.
Conductor Material, Finish and Stranding
Style 1015 establishes solid or stranded form and nothing else about the conductor. It does not universally establish copper, bare copper, tinned copper, silver-plated copper or nickel-plated copper, and it establishes no strand count, strand diameter, lay length or conductor resistance.
So 18 AWG stranded copper, 18 AWG tinned copper and 18 AWG bare copper are none of them presented here as the universal construction of this page. Where a buyer requires a particular conductor material or finish, that is an RFQ requirement confirmed against the applicable qualified construction.
No strand count is published — not 16/30, not 19/30, not 41/34, not any other configuration — and no strand diameter or conductor diameter is stated. No verified SKU datasheet has been supplied for this page, so detailed stranding remains an RFQ field.
The same applies to resistance: no ohm/km, ohm/1000 ft or maximum DC resistance value is published, since AWG alone does not establish one.
Solid or Stranded
Both forms are permitted at Style level, so the 18 AWG product is not assumed here to be stranded.
The wire is not described as flexible, high-flex or extra-flexible either, because the Style data establishes no flex class or flex-cycle rating. Conductor form should be stated in the enquiry where the drawing fixes it.
Temperature Rating
Style 1015 includes 80°C, 90°C and 105°C rating options, and the applicable ordered construction must be confirmed for the required rating.
This page is not described as universally 105°C, and one wire does not carry all three options simultaneously. A compliant 18 AWG Style 1015 construction may be 80°C, so where the appliance drawing specifies a rating, it belongs in the enquiry.
600 Vac, 750 Vdc and the Optional Tag
The verified ratings are 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, used accurately here and not written as 600/750 Vac, 750 Vac, 600V AC/DC or 750V AC/DC. Where commercial text uses the shorthand 600V, the technical position remains 600 Vac or 750 Vdc.
The Style separately permits a tag stating 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only. That is not the normal voltage rating and is not written as 2500V wire, 2.5 kV appliance wire, 2500 Vac, 2500 Vdc or 2.5 kV continuous. It is not a commercial feature of this page.
PVC Insulation
The verified insulation is extruded PVC. No PVC hardness, flame-retardant formulation, abrasion performance, chemical resistance, UV resistance, water resistance or cut-through performance figure is published, and no performance is inferred from generic PVC properties.
Optional Oil Rating
Style 1015 includes an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating. Not all Style 1015 18 AWG constructions carry it.
Where oil exposure matters at the lead position, the applicable optional rating is specified in the enquiry and confirmed for the ordered construction.
Horizontal Flame
The verified Style designation is Horizontal Flame. VW-1, FT1 and vertical flame are not claimed here, and any additional flame requirement is separately confirmed for the ordered construction.

Finished OD
Style 1015 defines no universal 18 AWG finished outside diameter, and none is published here. Generic published dimensions for 18 AWG wire found elsewhere are not treated as CableApex product specifications.
Actual OD depends on the actual conductor construction, the solid or stranded form, the actual conductor diameter, the PVC extrusion and manufacturing tolerance. The ordered construction controls the dimension.
Where the buyer controls dimensions, supply the maximum finished OD, the OD tolerance, the terminal entry and the routing clearance.
Termination
No claim is made here that 18 AWG is easy to terminate or easy to handle. Style 1015 establishes no terminal compatibility, crimp performance, strip force, solderability, connector fit or termination retention.
Where the appliance drawing controls termination, request the terminal part number, the connector, the strip length, the conductor material, the conductor finish and the stranding as applicable.
Routing
No routing advantage is attributed to 18 AWG here — not easier routing, tidier layout, compact-layout suitability or better bend behaviour.
Actual routing depends on the finished OD, the conductor construction, the equipment design, the terminal layout and the harness arrangement. Style 1015 provides no bend-radius value, and none is invented.
Bulk Wire and Processed Leads
This page primarily represents single-conductor Style 1015 wire. Nothing here implies that a quotation includes cutting, stripping, crimping, terminals, connectors or finished harnesses.
Where processed 18 AWG leads are required, those requirements are separately specified and confirmed, and stating which is needed in the first enquiry avoids quoting the wrong scope.
What Style 1015 Does Not Define
- Conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter, lay length and conductor diameter
- Conductor resistance, ampacity, current rating and power rating
- Finished OD and OD tolerance
- Bend radius and flex life
- Terminal, connector, cut length and colour
- MOQ, stock, lead time and production capacity
Each requires the customer specification, verified SKU documentation, the applicable qualified construction, or commercial confirmation.
Common Procurement Errors
- 18 AWG assumed to define one universal strand count. The Style defines none.
- All 18 AWG Style 1015 assumed to be tinned copper. Conductor material is not set at Style level.
- 18 AWG assumed to differ from 16 AWG at Style level. Both sit in the same group with identical requirements.
- All Style 1015 assumed to be 105°C. 80°C and 90°C are equally options.
- The 750 Vdc rating omitted.
- 2,500 V peak treated as normal working voltage.
- The 30 mil minimum-average requirement called an exact nominal wall.
- One universal finished OD assumed.
- Ampacity published from 18 AWG alone.
- Internal wiring of appliances expanded into general equipment wiring.

Selection
No statement is made here that a smaller AWG would be sufficient, that a larger AWG provides more capability, or that another insulation family would be better suited. AWG selection comes from the equipment design.
Different AWM Styles are evaluated according to their own Use, temperature, voltage, construction and insulation requirements, against the actual appliance specification rather than by comparison in the abstract.
UL Marking and Documentation
Material is supplied as UL-recognized component wire where supplied under qualified manufacturing scope, and UL marking is applied according to the confirmed ordered construction. The Style-level marking designation is General.
CSA AWM, FT1, VW-1 and dual UL / CSA certification are not claimed here; any additional certification depends on the ordered construction. Applicable RoHS / REACH documentation can be confirmed according to the ordered construction.
