UL 1007 18 AWG Hook-Up Wire for Germany Procurement

This page covers UL AWM Style 1007 in 18 AWG for buyers in Germany, together with the supply coordination that a China-sourced order involves. It is written for appliance and equipment OEM procurement teams, engineering buyers and distributors whose drawing, BOM or existing wire specification calls for 18 AWG Style 1007.

Style 1007 is a single conductor with extruded PVC insulation, rated 80°C and 300 Vac with a Horizontal Flame designation, with an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating. The Style conductor range is 32 AWG–16 AWG in solid or stranded form; this page focuses on 18 AWG enquiries within that range. The official Use is “Internal wiring of appliances.”

A German buyer sourcing from China usually needs two things settled before a purchase order: what the Style actually fixes, and what the order documents have to state so the delivered construction matches the drawing. This page addresses both.

Nine points to clarify about the table above:

  1. 18 AWG is this page’s procurement focus and sits inside the Style range of 32 AWG–16 AWG.
  2. The Style range describes what can be qualified under Style 1007. It is not a stock list, and availability of an 18 AWG construction is confirmed per enquiry.
  3. Both conductor forms are permitted by the Style. This page does not preset solid or stranded.
  4. Conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter and lay length are not defined by the Style.
  5. 15 mil minimum average and 13 mil minimum at any point are two independent requirements, not a range and not nominal values. The 15 mil figure corresponds to roughly 0.38 mm as a metric reference only, and is not a guaranteed finished wall.
  6. The Oil rating is optional, and a 60°C or 80°C requirement must be stated by the buyer.
  7. The normal voltage rating is 300 Vac. The record gives no DC rating.
  8. 600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only is an optional tag indication, not the normal working-voltage rating.
  9. Finished OD, OD tolerance, conductor resistance, metric cross-section and ampacity are not defined by the Style.

Ratings, the Optional Oil Rating and the Peak Tag

The temperature rating is 80°C, stated without a duty qualifier. This page does not describe it as continuous, and derives no service life or thermal margin from it.

The normal voltage rating is 300 Vac. Style 1007 is not described here as a 600 V wire. Tags may indicate “600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only”, and whenever that tag appears in a specification both qualifiers stay with it: it is a peak indication for electronic use, not a working-voltage rating, and it does not widen the official Use. Writing the Style as 300–600 V, 600 Vac or 600 V continuous misstates the record in each case.

A 60°C or 80°C Oil rating is optional and applies only where specified and confirmed for the ordered construction. Its temperature is a separate designation from the 80°C Style rating. The flame designation is Horizontal Flame; VW-1, FT1 and vertical flame designations are not part of this record.

Insulation and Dimensions

The insulation is extruded PVC. The wall must meet both an average thickness of at least 15 mils and a thickness of at least 13 mils at every point around the conductor. These are floor values, and the second is not a tolerance on the first.

Minimum wall values do not produce a finished outer diameter. Actual OD depends on the conductor material and form, the actual conductor diameter, the PVC extrusion and manufacturing tolerance, so adding a generic 18 AWG conductor diameter to the minimum wall does not give a valid product dimension. German drawings frequently control a maximum OD for grommet or terminal entry: where that applies, state the maximum finished OD and the OD tolerance in the RFQ so the proposed construction can be checked against it.

The same applies to metric values. Where a drawing controls a cross-section in mm² or a maximum conductor resistance, those are buyer requirements checked against the proposed construction, not figures read from the Style or from a generic AWG conversion table. “Extruded PVC” also does not mean lead-free, halogen-free or LSZH material; PVC contains chlorine, and a halogen-free requirement is a different material specification.

What 18 AWG Fixes, and What It Does Not

Naming 18 AWG fixes the conductor size and nothing else. It does not establish a circuit function, and the Style designates no size as signal, control or power wire. It also does not establish a current rating: the record gives no ampacity, and none is inferred here from 18 AWG, the 80°C rating or the 300 Vac rating. Current-carrying capacity is evaluated through the buyer’s equipment design and the applicable approval process.

The record also contains no market statement, so this page does not describe 18 AWG as the most common or default Style 1007 size. Conductor construction details — solid or stranded, material, plating, strand count, strand diameter, lay construction — are RFQ fields, and no flexibility grade or stranding class is applied to Style 1007 here.

Official Use: Internal Wiring of Appliances

The official Use is “Internal wiring of appliances.” This page keeps that wording and does not extend it to building wiring, field wiring, conduit or tray installations, mains installation, branch circuits, automotive, solar or EV battery wiring, external equipment wiring or general power distribution.

German enquiries often arrive from contexts such as appliance harnesses, control panel builds, power supply assemblies or OEM subassemblies. Those are buyer enquiry contexts that can be reviewed against the drawing, and they do not change the Use. Compliance of a finished appliance or assembly is established at the equipment level and is not conferred by the Style designation of one internal wire, so Style 1007 recognition alone does not answer a panel, machinery or product-level requirement.

China Supply Coordination for a German Order

CableApex is an international sales, export and customer communication company. It is not the UL File holder, and supplied wire is UL-recognized component wire where supplied under a qualified manufacturing scope, with UL marking according to the confirmed ordered construction.

What that means practically for a Germany-bound order is that the construction is fixed on paper before production rather than assumed from the Style number. The enquiry defines the construction, the order documents record it, and the delivered wire is checked against those documents. Where a German drawing controls conductor material, colour, marking, OD or documentation, those points belong in the order documents rather than in a verbal understanding, and any requirement CableApex cannot confirm is identified during quotation rather than left open.

Quantity, packaging, reel configuration, Incoterm and destination are quotation variables handled per enquiry. No lead time, stock position, production capacity, minimum order quantity or shipping schedule is published here.

How to Specify UL 1007 18 AWG for a Germany RFQ

A Style designation is a construction requirement, not a complete purchase specification. A complete enquiry adds:

  • the UL AWM Style 1007 requirement and the 18 AWG size
  • the 80°C and 300 Vac requirements
  • solid or stranded construction
  • conductor material and plating, where controlled by the drawing
  • whether an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating is required, and which
  • insulation colour and any colour coding requirement
  • the marking requirement
  • maximum OD and OD tolerance, where controlled
  • maximum conductor resistance or a controlled mm² cross-section, where applicable
  • the appliance internal wiring location
  • the drawing, BOM or equipment specification
  • documentation requirements, quantity and packaging preference
  • the German destination and the requested Incoterm

Germany Procurement Context

Germany is the destination and procurement context for this page. German buyers may search for Style 1007 in 18 AWG when a drawing or BOM requires an 80°C, 300 Vac AWM internal appliance wiring construction, whether for a series build, a replacement part or an export programme, and any German city or port can be named as the destination in an enquiry.

No German market demand, industry usage, customer or project is claimed here, and no conclusion is drawn about EU or German conformity, material regulation or import requirements. Where such requirements apply, the buyer should state them so the applicable documents can be reviewed for the ordered construction.

What Style 1007 Does and Does Not Define

Style 1007 defines:

  • 80°C temperature rating and 300 Vac normal voltage rating
  • Horizontal Flame
  • optional 60°C or 80°C Oil
  • conductor range 32 AWG–16 AWG, solid or stranded
  • extruded PVC, 15 mil minimum average / 13 mil minimum at any point
  • Marking: General
  • Use: Internal wiring of appliances.
  • optional tag: 600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only

Style 1007 does not universally define:

  • conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter or lay length
  • finished OD, OD tolerance or bend radius
  • conductor resistance, ampacity, current rating or metric cross-section
  • a DC voltage rating
  • halogen-free or LSZH material properties
  • control panel, machinery or product-level compliance
  • colour, reel length, MOQ, stock, lead time, production capacity or shipping term

Common Procurement Errors

  • Describing Style 1007 as a 600 V wire, or writing 300–600 V.
  • Dropping “Peak” or “For Electronic Use Only” from the optional tag.
  • Writing “80°C continuous”.
  • Assuming 18 AWG Style 1007 is always stranded or always tinned copper.
  • Treating the optional Oil rating as standard.
  • Omitting the 13 mil minimum-at-any-point requirement, or treating 15 mil as a nominal wall.
  • Deriving a finished OD from the minimum wall values.
  • Using a generic AWG-to-mm² conversion as a product specification.
  • Deriving ampacity from conductor size or the ratings.
  • Describing PVC insulation as halogen-free or LSZH.
  • Extending internal wiring of appliances into installation, automotive, solar or EV wiring.
  • Leaving conductor material, colour, marking or OD out of the order documents and assuming them from the Style number.
