UL 10362 250°C 600V PFA Wire for Internal Wiring
This page covers UL AWM Style 10362, a single conductor with extruded PFA insulation rated 250°C and 600 Vac with a Horizontal Flame designation. It is written for equipment and appliance OEM engineering and procurement teams whose drawing, BOM or wire specification calls for Style 10362.
The conductor range is 30 AWG–4/0 AWG, solid or stranded, Marking is General, and the official Use is “Internal wiring.” The insulation wall requirement changes sharply across three conductor-size groups, from 10 mils minimum average at the fine end to 45 mils at the heavy end.
That spread is the first thing to settle in any enquiry. A wall figure taken from the wrong group is the most common way a Style 10362 specification goes wrong, and the sections below separate what the Style fixes from what the order has to state.

Nine points to clarify about the tables above:
- The temperature rating is 250°C, stated without a duty qualifier.
- The voltage rating is 600 Vac. The record gives no DC rating.
- The insulation wall requirement depends on the conductor size group, and the three groups differ substantially.
- Each group gives a minimum average thickness and a minimum thickness at any point. These are two independent minimums, not nominal or exact wall values.
- The 10 mil figure belongs to the 30–10 AWG group only. It is not a universal thin-wall property of the Style.
- The conductor range is 30 AWG–4/0 AWG, solid or stranded, and conductor material and stranding are confirmed from the qualified construction rather than fixed by the Style.
- Plating, strand count, strand diameter and lay length are likewise not defined by the Style.
- Finished OD, OD tolerance, conductor resistance, metric cross-section and ampacity are not defined by the Style.
- The Style range is not a stock list, and availability of a given size and construction is confirmed per enquiry.
Insulation Wall by Conductor Size Group
Style 10362 sets the extruded PFA wall in three groups. For 30–10 AWG the requirement is 10 mils minimum average and 8 mils minimum at any point. For 9–2 AWG it steps up to 30 mils and 27 mils. For 1–4/0 AWG it reaches 45 mils and 41 mils.
The step between the first and second group is a factor of three, which is larger than in most AWM Styles, so quoting “10 mil PFA wall” as a property of Style 10362 misstates the requirement for every size from 9 AWG upward. Equally, applying the 30 mil figure to a 20 AWG requirement would overstate it. The group that matters is the one containing the ordered size.
Within each group both values apply together: the average wall must meet the first figure, and no point of the wall may fall below the second. Neither is a nominal build, and neither produces a finished outer diameter. Actual OD depends on the conductor material and form, the actual conductor dimensions, the applicable insulation group, the PFA extrusion and manufacturing tolerance. Where connector entry, sleeve fit or routing clearance is controlled, state a maximum finished OD and OD tolerance in the RFQ so the proposed construction can be checked against it.

Ratings and the PFA Insulation
The temperature rating is 250°C. This page does not describe it as continuous or continuous-duty, does not claim any higher figure, and derives no service life, thermal cycling count or thermal margin from it.
The voltage rating is 600 Vac. The record gives no DC rating, so no DC or peak figure is stated or derived, and the rating describes the wire rather than establishing suitability for any particular circuit.
The insulation material is extruded PFA, a fluoropolymer. The record states the material and the wall requirements and nothing further, so this page does not attribute chemical resistance, solvent resistance, oil resistance, moisture performance, low friction, dielectric constant values or outgassing behaviour to it. The flame designation is Horizontal Flame; VW-1, FT1, vertical flame, self-extinguishing and fire-resistant descriptions are not part of this record, and no comparison with PTFE, FEP, ETFE or other insulation materials is drawn here.
Conductor Range and Construction
The Style covers 30 AWG through 4/0 AWG, solid or stranded. Listings that show a wider span describe sizes the Style does not cover, and an enquiry built on such a listing will not match a qualified Style 10362 construction.
The record refers conductor material and stranding to the qualified construction, so those are order parameters rather than Style properties. The following are RFQ fields:
- solid or stranded form
- conductor material
- plating or surface finish, such as tinned, silver-plated or nickel-plated constructions where the drawing requires one
- strand count, strand diameter and lay construction, where controlled
- maximum conductor resistance, where controlled
- metric cross-section, where a drawing specifies mm² rather than AWG
No stranding class, flexibility grade or flex life is applied here, since the record contains none. Conductor size also assigns no circuit function or current capacity: the record gives no ampacity, and none is inferred from conductor size, the 250°C rating or the 600 Vac rating. Current-carrying capacity is evaluated through the buyer’s equipment design and the applicable approval process.
Official Use: Internal Wiring
The official Use is “Internal wiring.” The record attaches no equipment category to it, so this page neither narrows it to appliances nor widens it into building or field wiring, branch-circuit or facility wiring, conduit or tray installations, external equipment wiring, portable cord, or interconnection between separate enclosures.
Enquiries often arrive from contexts such as high-temperature equipment interiors, sensor and instrumentation assemblies, heating equipment, semiconductor or laboratory equipment, or aerospace and defence programmes. Those are buyer enquiry contexts that can be reviewed against the drawing, and they do not change the Use or establish suitability for any industry qualification. Compliance of a finished product is established at the equipment level and is not conferred by the Style designation of one internal wire.

How to Specify UL 10362
A Style designation is a construction requirement, not a complete purchase specification. A complete enquiry adds:
- the UL AWM Style 10362 requirement
- the AWG within 30 AWG–4/0 AWG
- solid or stranded construction
- conductor material and plating, where controlled by the drawing
- strand construction and maximum conductor resistance, where controlled
- insulation colour and any identification requirement
- the marking requirement
- maximum OD and OD tolerance, where controlled
- the internal wiring location
- the drawing, BOM or equipment specification
- documentation requirements, quantity and packaging or reel preference
- the destination and the requested Incoterm
No price, currency, pricing formula or price validity period is published on this page. A quotation is prepared against a defined construction and commercial scope and issued as a separate quotation document.
What Style 10362 Does and Does Not Define
Style 10362 defines:
- 250°C temperature rating and 600 Vac voltage rating
- Horizontal Flame
- a single conductor with extruded insulation
- conductor range 30 AWG–4/0 AWG, solid or stranded
- extruded PFA insulation, 10/8 mils for 30–10 AWG, 30/27 mils for 9–2 AWG and 45/41 mils for 1–4/0 AWG
- Marking: General
- Use: Internal wiring.
Style 10362 does not universally define:
- conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter or lay length
- a single universal wall thickness
- finished OD, OD tolerance, bend radius, flex cycles or flex class
- conductor resistance, ampacity, current rating or metric cross-section
- a DC voltage rating
- chemical, solvent, oil or moisture resistance
- dielectric constant, outgassing or low-friction properties
- aerospace, defence, medical, semiconductor or laboratory qualification
- colour, reel length, MOQ, stock, lead time, production capacity or shipping term
Common Procurement Errors
- Quoting the 10 mil wall as a universal Style property.
- Applying one group’s wall values to a size in another group.
- Omitting the minimum-at-any-point value from the applicable group, or treating the minimum average as a nominal wall.
- Deriving a finished OD from the minimum wall values.
- Writing “250°C continuous”, or claiming a higher temperature rating.
- Stating a DC or peak voltage rating.
- Assuming the conductor is silver-plated or nickel-plated copper without stating it.
- Claiming a stranding class or flexibility grade.
- Attributing chemical, solvent or oil resistance to the PFA insulation.
- Comparing PFA with PTFE, FEP or ETFE as a selection rule on this page.
- Deriving ampacity from conductor size or the ratings.
- Extending “Internal wiring” into installation, field or external cable use.
- Treating component Style recognition as an industry or equipment-level qualification.
