Note that the 30 mils minimum average insulation wall applies uniformly across the full 26–12 AWG range under this Style, so finished outer diameter varies with conductor size alone rather than stepping between wall classes.
Why Buyers Specify Tinned Copper
Tinned copper is available for confirmed OEM orders under this Style. It is worth specifying where the production process makes conductor surface condition a practical concern:
- Solder wetting. Tinned conductors typically show easier solder wetting than bare copper in many production processes, which can reduce variation in solder joint formation across a production run.
- Storage and handling. Tin plating helps reduce surface oxidation on the conductor during storage and handling before the wire reaches the assembly stage. This matters more where wire is bought in volume and consumed over an extended period.
- Termination consistency. Where soldering or a particular termination method is used repeatedly across production units, a tinned conductor surface can support more consistent results than a bare surface whose condition varies with age and storage.
Tinned copper is a construction choice rather than a performance guarantee — it does not prevent oxidation entirely, and it is not universally preferable to bare copper. Where the termination method is crimp or screw terminal and the wire is consumed shortly after receipt, bare copper may be equally suitable. Application Boundary — Totally Enclosed Appliance Internal Wiring
The UL Style 3135 file states the use as internal wiring of appliances where totally enclosed. This condition applies to the finished installation, and it is the boundary within which this product is supplied.

- Internal wiring inside totally enclosed appliance assemblies where a 200°C silicone rubber construction is specified by the equipment design
- Protected internal routing where the appliance enclosure fully contains the wire path
- Internal leads located in warmer zones of the appliance interior, where the wire remains protected inside the enclosure and is not in contact with flame or heating elements
UL Style 3135 is not supplied or positioned as motor cable, control panel wiring, field wiring, building wire, exposed wiring or heating-element connection wire. Suitability for a specific appliance design depends on the equipment, the routing arrangement, the ordered construction and the applicable equipment-level evaluation.
OEM Processing and Harness Production
UL 3135 tinned-copper wire can be supplied for OEM harness production where the finished assembly is used as totally enclosed appliance internal wiring. Where harness production is part of your process, the following are worth settling at enquiry:
- Cut lengths. Fixed-length cutting can be arranged where the assembly uses repeated lead lengths.
- Stripping and termination. Silicone rubber insulation behaves differently from PVC under stripping tooling. Confirm the insulation dimensions so stripper settings can be calibrated to the actual ordered construction.
- Soldering. Where the assembly includes soldering steps, the tinned-copper construction on this page is the relevant option.
- Multiple colours. Harness assemblies typically require several colours for lead identification. Specify the colour list and the quantity per colour.
- Reel or spool format. Confirm the format your assembly line works with, including reel length.
Note that supplying wire for harness production does not change the Style boundary — the finished harness must be installed as totally enclosed appliance internal wiring.
