UL 1015 PVC Hook-Up Wire — 80/90/105°C 600 Vac / 750 Vdc for Appliance Internal Wiring

UL AWM Style 1015 is commonly sourced as PVC hook-up wire for fixed internal appliance connections. In Product iQ terms it is a single conductor with extruded insulation, offering 80°C, 90°C or 105°C rating options at 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, with Horizontal Flame and an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating. The Style conductor range is 30 AWG through 2000 kcmil, solid or stranded, with minimum insulation thickness defined across seven size-dependent groups. Marking is General. Hook-up wire describes the commercial product category; the official UL Use remains internal wiring of appliances. Conductor material, finish, stranding and finished dimensions are confirmed for the ordered construction. Tags may also indicate 2,500 V peak — for electronic use only.

UL 1015 Sourced as PVC Hook-Up Wire

UL AWM Style 1015 is commonly sourced as PVC hook-up wire for fixed internal appliance connections. In Product iQ terms the construction is a single conductor with extruded insulation, with 80°C, 90°C or 105°C rating options, voltage ratings of 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, and a Horizontal Flame designation.

Hook-up wire is the commercial product term, not the official UL Use. The official Use for Style 1015 is internal wiring of appliances, and every application statement on this page stays inside it.

This page is written for buyers who arrive with that commercial vocabulary — sourcing hook-up wire for component-to-component fixed wiring inside an appliance — and who need the Style-level requirements that actually govern what gets supplied.

Three clarifications belong with that table. Hook-up wire is commercial terminology rather than a UL designation. The official Style Use remains internal wiring of appliances. And the full conductor range describes permitted construction scope — it does not mean every size is automatically stocked.

What “Hook-Up Wire” Does and Does Not Tell You

The term describes how the wire is bought, not how it is built or how it performs.

UL Product iQ does not define Style 1015 as hook-up wire. It defines a single conductor with extruded insulation, and the hook-up label sits on top of that as trade vocabulary. Nothing here should be read as UL-approved hook-up wire for all electrical equipment.

The term also carries no flexibility meaning. No minimum bend radius, flex-cycle figure, continuous-flex suitability or moving-machine suitability is published here, because the Style establishes none — and Style 1015 permits solid conductors as readily as stranded ones, which makes any general flexibility inference unsound from the outset. This page concerns fixed internal appliance wiring.

Component-to-Component Wiring Inside Appliances

The commercial contexts this page addresses are component-to-component fixed wiring inside appliances, internal appliance hook-up leads, drawing-controlled internal appliance interconnections, bulk single-conductor PVC wire used in appliance internal wiring, and OEM appliance wiring specifications using Style 1015.

UL has not separately approved any appliance architecture or component through the Style, and no such approval is implied.

The official Use does not extend to industrial equipment wiring, control panels, control cabinets, building wiring, field wiring, branch circuits, tray, conduit, raceway, portable cord, external appliance power cord or general machine wiring. OEM may be used as a buyer context — appliance OEM, OEM appliance internal wiring, an appliance manufacturing program — but OEM status does not expand the Use, and OEM electrical equipment is not used here as a broad application category.

Temperature Rating Is an Option, Not a Default

Style 1015 provides 80°C, 90°C and 105°C rating options, and the applicable ordered construction must be confirmed for the required rating.

Style 1015 is not described here as a 105°C wire as a universal statement, and one ordered wire does not carry all three options simultaneously. Where the appliance drawing specifies a rating, it belongs in the enquiry.

600 Vac, 750 Vdc and the Optional Peak Tag

The verified Style ratings are 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, and both are stated here. Neither is written as 750 Vac, 600/750 Vac, 600V AC/DC or 750V AC/DC, and the technical definition is not reduced to 600V alone.

The Style separately permits a tag stating 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only. That is not the normal working-voltage rating:

Normal Style rating: 600 Vac or 750 Vdc.
Optional electronic-use tag: 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only.

It is not written as 2500V hook-up wire, 2.5 kV hook-up wire, 2500 Vac, 2500 Vdc or 2.5 kV continuous.

Conductor Material and Stranding

Style 1015 establishes solid or stranded form and nothing else about the conductor. The supplied Style data does not universally establish copper, tinned copper, bare copper, silver-plated copper or nickel-plated copper, and it establishes no strand count, strand diameter, lay length or conductor resistance.

So hook-up wire under this Style is not automatically stranded copper. Where a buyer requires copper, tinned copper, bare copper, specific stranding or a specific conductor diameter, each is an order-specific RFQ requirement confirmed against the applicable qualified construction.

The wire is also not described here as flexible, high-flex or extra-flexible, since no flex class or cycle rating is established.

Seven Insulation Groups

The insulation requirement changes across the conductor range in seven steps, each stating a minimum average thickness and a separate minimum thickness at any point. These are not nominal values, and no single universal wall is published for Style 1015.

For hook-up wire procurement this matters because a schedule of interconnection leads may span more than one group, and two lines on the same schedule then describe different constructions under one Style number.

Finished OD

Style 1015 defines no universal finished outside diameter, and none is calculated here from conductor size plus minimum insulation thickness.

Actual OD depends on the conductor size, the solid or stranded construction, the actual conductor geometry, the PVC extrusion and manufacturing tolerance. Where equipment dimensions are controlled, request the maximum finished OD, the OD tolerance, the routing clearance and the terminal entry.

No Universal Current Rating

No ampacity table is published. Style 1015 establishes no universal current rating, and no AWG is stated here as supporting a particular number of amps, a continuous current, a specific wattage, a motor power or a heater power.

AWG selection belongs to the complete appliance design.

Routing, Stripping and Termination

No routing advantage is attributed to Style 1015 here — not easy routing, manageable routing, compact routing suitability, easy organisation or grouped-routing suitability. Routing depends on the finished OD, the conductor construction, the harness arrangement and the equipment geometry.

The same applies to processing. Style 1015 establishes no strip force, stripping performance, terminal compatibility, crimp performance, solderability, connector fit or termination retention, and no claim about ease of assembly appears on this page.

Where these matter, identify the terminal, the connector, the strip length, the conductor material, the conductor finish and the stranding in the enquiry. Those inputs let the construction be checked against the interface rather than assumed compatible with it.

Optional Oil Rating

Style 1015 includes an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating. Not all Style 1015 hook-up wire carries it.

Where an appliance specification requires the optional Oil rating, the applicable ordered construction is confirmed. No broader chemical-resistance claim is made from it.

Horizontal Flame

The verified Style designation is Horizontal Flame. VW-1, FT1 and vertical flame are not claimed here, and any additional flame requirement remains order-specific unless separately confirmed.

PVC Insulation

The verified insulation is extruded PVC across the seven size-dependent groups above. No PVC hardness, flame-retardant formulation, abrasion performance, chemical resistance, UV resistance, water resistance or cut-through performance is published, and no performance is inferred from generic PVC properties.

Style Range and Availability

The verified Style range is 30 AWG through 2000 kcmil. That is a UL construction scope rather than an inventory statement, and it does not indicate that every listed size is automatically stocked.

Availability of a particular size, rating and construction combination is confirmed for the ordered construction.

Repeat Appliance Orders

No stable supply, conductor consistency, colour stability, batch-to-batch reliability, permanent availability, fixed lead time or production capacity is promised here. None of those is a Style 1015 parameter.

For repeated OEM appliance orders, what holds the specification steady is controlling it explicitly: the Style, the AWG, the conductor construction, the temperature rating, the voltage requirement, the insulation requirements, the colour, the finished dimensions, the marking, the packaging, and the approved drawing or specification.

Bulk Wire and Processed Leads

This page primarily represents single-conductor Style 1015 hook-up wire. Nothing here implies that supply includes cutting, stripping, crimping, terminals, connectors or complete harnesses.

Where processed leads are required, those requirements are separately specified and confirmed.

What Style 1015 Does Not Define

  • Conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter and lay length
  • Conductor resistance, ampacity and current rating
  • Finished OD and OD tolerance
  • Bend radius and flex life
  • Strip force, terminal compatibility, crimp performance and solderability
  • Colour and cut length
  • MOQ, stock, lead time and production capacity

Each requires the customer specification, verified SKU documentation, the applicable qualified construction, or commercial confirmation.

Common Procurement Errors

  • All Style 1015 hook-up wire assumed to be 105°C. 80°C and 90°C are equally options.
  • The 750 Vdc rating omitted.
  • 2,500 V peak treated as ordinary working voltage.
  • All hook-up wire assumed to be stranded copper. Conductor material is not set at Style level.
  • Tinned copper assumed to be universally offered on every construction.
  • One insulation thickness used across the full conductor range. Seven groups apply.
  • “Hook-up wire” read as meaning high-flex wire. The term carries no flexibility rating.
  • One universal finished OD assumed.
  • Ampacity published from AWG alone.
  • Style 1015 treated as general-purpose field or building wiring.

Selection

UL 1007 is not presented here as a lighter version of Style 1015. Each Style has its own rating, conductor range, insulation requirements, Use and optional ratings, and selection is based on the actual appliance specification.

The same applies to silicone, fluoropolymer and XLPE constructions: none is described as automatically more suitable because higher performance is wanted. Each AWM Style is evaluated individually against its Use, temperature, voltage, construction, conductor range and the customer drawing.

UL Marking and Documentation

Material is supplied as UL-recognized component wire where supplied under qualified manufacturing scope, and UL marking is applied according to the confirmed ordered construction. The Style-level marking designation is General.

CSA AWM, FT1, VW-1 and dual UL / CSA certification are not claimed here; any additional certification depends on the ordered construction. Applicable RoHS / REACH documentation can be confirmed according to the ordered construction.
