UL 1015 for OEM Appliance Internal-Wiring Specification
UL AWM Style 1015 is a single conductor with extruded PVC insulation. The Style includes 80°C, 90°C and 105°C temperature rating options, voltage ratings of 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, and a Horizontal Flame designation, across a conductor range of 30 AWG through 2000 kcmil in solid or stranded form.
The official Use is internal wiring of appliances. OEM here means OEM appliance manufacturing and sourcing — a buyer and manufacturing context within that Use, not an expansion of it.
This page is written for the specification side of that work: defining the required Style 1015 construction so it can be quoted, approved and reordered consistently. The Style leaves a great deal to the ordered construction, and with seven insulation groups and three temperature options it leaves more open than most.

| Optional tag — not a voltage rating | 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only |
Four points follow directly from that table. 80°C, 90°C and 105°C are rating options rather than a combined rating. 600 Vac and 750 Vdc are two distinct Style voltage ratings. 2,500 V peak is an optional electronic-use tag, not a working voltage. And the full Style range is what the Style permits — it does not mean every size and construction is automatically stocked.
Three Temperature Options, One Confirmed Rating
UL AWM Style 1015 includes 80°C, 90°C and 105°C rating options, with the applicable ordered construction confirmed for the required rating.
Describing Style 1015 as 105°C wire, as 105°C standard, or as always 105°C misstates the Style. No ordered construction carries all three simultaneously, and 105°C continuous is not used here without separate SKU support.
For an appliance program this matters at specification level: if the drawing calls for 105°C, that has to be stated, because a compliant Style 1015 construction may be 80°C.
600 Vac and 750 Vdc Are Both Style Ratings
The verified rating is 600 Vac or 750 Vdc. Both belong in a complete technical statement of the Style.
750 Vdc is not restated here as 750 Vac, as 600/750 Vac or as 750V AC/DC. Where the shorthand 600V appears in commercial context, the formal Style rating remains 600 Vac or 750 Vdc, and the enquiry should say which condition applies at the lead position.
The 2,500 V Peak Tag
The Style may carry a tag indicating 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only. This is not the normal Style voltage rating.
Normal Style ratings: 600 Vac; 750 Vdc.
Optional tag: 2,500 V peak – for electronic use only.
It is not written here as 2500V wire, 2500 Vac, 2500 Vdc, 600/2500V wire, 2.5 kV continuous or 2.5 kV appliance wire, and it is not treated as a headline feature of the product.
Seven Insulation Groups
Style 1015 has no single insulation wall. The requirement steps up seven times between 30 AWG and 2000 kcmil, and each group states a minimum average thickness and a separate minimum thickness at any point — two distinct requirements, not a nominal value with a tolerance.
One detail is easy to lose when the table is summarised: 8–7 AWG is its own group covering just two sizes, sitting between the broad 30–9 AWG group and the 6–2 AWG group. Collapsing it into either neighbour misstates the construction for those two sizes.
None of these figures is a nominal wall thickness, and no metric conversion is published unless it has been calculated for a specific purpose.
Style Range Is Not Inventory Range
Style 1015 permits 30 AWG through 2000 kcmil. That span covers fine appliance control leads at one end and very large conductors at the other, and it describes what the Style allows rather than what is held.
Availability of any particular size, temperature rating, conductor construction and optional rating combination is confirmed at RFQ. Nothing on this page should be read as a stock statement.
Conductor Material Is an Order-Specific Requirement
Style 1015 establishes the 30 AWG–2000 kcmil range and the solid or stranded form. It establishes nothing else about the conductor.
Copper, tinned copper, bare copper, silver-plated copper and nickel-plated copper are none of them established at Style level, and no strand count, strand diameter, lay length or conductor resistance is stated here. Where an OEM customer requires tinned copper or another conductor finish, it is an order-specific requirement supported by the applicable qualified construction or verified SKU documentation.
Solid or Stranded
Both forms are permitted at Style level, so Style 1015 is not described here as universally stranded wire.
No flexible conductor, extra-flexible conductor or high-flex conductor claim is made either, since the supplied Style data establishes no flex class or flex-cycle rating. Where the appliance assembly process depends on conductor form, it is stated in the specification.
Optional Oil Ratings
The Style includes an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil rating. Style 1015 is not universally oil resistant, not all constructions carry an oil rating, and PVC does not automatically confer the optional UL rating.
Where oil resistance is required, the exact ordered construction and the applicable optional rating are confirmed. The optional rating is also not converted here into unrelated chemical-resistance claims.

Horizontal Flame
The verified Style-level flame designation is Horizontal Flame. VW-1, FT1 and vertical flame are not claimed here. Where a separately confirmed ordered construction carries an additional flame requirement, that stays order-specific rather than becoming a universal Style 1015 claim.
Appliance Internal Wiring
The contexts this page addresses are OEM appliance internal wiring, drawing-controlled appliance internal leads, component-to-component connections inside appliances, appliance manufacturing programs requiring Style 1015, and procurement against an appliance wire specification.
UL has not separately approved any individual appliance type through this Style, and no such approval is implied by naming an application.
The Use also does not extend to general electrical equipment wiring, industrial control cabinet wiring, control-panel field wiring, building wiring, branch circuits, field wiring, tray, conduit, raceway, portable cord, external appliance cord, general machine wiring or general power distribution. Being an OEM does not change that boundary.
What an Appliance OEM Buyer Needs to Define
Because the Style leaves so much open, a Style 1015 specification is only as complete as the fields the buyer fills in:
- Required AWG or kcmil size
- Solid or stranded conductor
- Required conductor material
- Required conductor finish or plating
- Detailed stranding, if controlled
- Required temperature rating: 80°C, 90°C or 105°C
- AC or DC voltage requirement
- PVC insulation and the applicable insulation-thickness group
- Optional Oil rating, if required
- Finished OD, if drawing-controlled, and OD tolerance
- Colour and marking
- Packaging
- Customer drawing or existing wire specification
- Compliance documentation
None of these values is invented here. The temperature rating and the conductor construction in particular are the two most frequently left blank, and both change what is supplied.
Repeat Procurement Control
Appliance programs usually buy the same wire across successive production runs, and the way to keep that consistent is specification control rather than a supply promise.
No batch-to-batch identity, guaranteed colour consistency, guaranteed conductor consistency, permanent stock, fixed lead time, production capacity or supply continuity is promised on this page.
What does hold a repeat program steady is controlling the specification itself: the AWG, the conductor construction, the temperature rating, the voltage rating, the insulation requirements, the finished dimensions, the colour, the marking, the packaging, and an approved sample or drawing where one exists. A reorder referencing that set is reproducible; a reorder referencing a Style number is not.
Finished OD
Style 1015 does not define one universal finished outside diameter, and no guaranteed OD is calculated here from conductor gauge plus minimum insulation wall.
Actual finished OD depends on the conductor size, the solid or stranded construction, the detailed conductor geometry, the actual extrusion and manufacturing tolerance. Where the OEM drawing controls dimensions, request the maximum OD, the minimum OD where applicable, the OD tolerance, and the terminal-entry or routing clearance. No standard OD value is published.
Current Rating and Material Performance
No universal Style 1015 ampacity table appears here. The Style establishes no universal current rating, and AWG or kcmil alone is insufficient to define equipment current capability — actual current selection belongs to the complete appliance design. No maximum amps, continuous current or current density figure is published.
Likewise no ampacity, heater wattage, motor power, branch-circuit capacity or field-installation suitability is published on the basis that the wire is used in appliances, since none of those is a Style 1015 parameter.
No abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, UV resistance, water resistance, cut-through resistance, flex life, bend radius or dielectric strength beyond the verified voltage ratings is claimed, and oil resistance is claimed only where the optional rating is confirmed. General PVC material knowledge is not used here as though it were verified Style 1015 performance data.
Style Selection
UL 1007 and UL 1015 are separate AWM Styles with different ratings, conductor ranges, insulation requirements, Use parameters and optional ratings. Neither is presented here as an automatic substitute for the other on the basis of voltage.
The same applies to silicone, fluoropolymer and XLPE constructions: none is described as better suited simply because a buyer prefers another polymer. AWM Style selection considers the required Style, the temperature, the voltage, the Use, the conductor range, the insulation construction, the optional ratings and the customer drawing.
What Style 1015 Does Not Define
- Conductor material and conductor plating
- Strand count, strand diameter and lay length
- Conductor resistance, ampacity and current rating
- Finished OD and OD tolerance
- Bend radius and flex life
- Colour
- Terminal, connector and cut length
- MOQ, stock, lead time and production capacity
Each requires the customer specification, verified SKU documentation, the applicable qualified construction, or commercial confirmation.
Common Procurement Errors
- All Style 1015 assumed to be 105°C. 80°C and 90°C are equally Style options.
- The 750 Vdc rating omitted. Both voltage ratings belong in the specification.
- 2,500 V peak treated as an ordinary 2.5 kV working voltage. It is an electronic-use tag.
- Tinned copper assumed. Conductor material is not set at Style level.
- Style 1015 assumed to be always stranded. Solid is equally permitted.
- One insulation thickness applied across the conductor range. Seven groups apply.
- The 8–7 AWG group collapsed into a neighbour. It is its own two-size group.
- One universal finished OD assumed.
- The Style range treated as available stock.
- A universal ampacity published from AWG alone.
- Style 1015 used as general field or building wiring.
- The appliance Use expanded into unrestricted electrical-equipment wiring.
