UL AWM Style 1007 18 AWG PVC Hook-Up Wire for Saudi Arabia Buyers

This page covers UL AWM Style 1007 single-conductor PVC wire in 18 AWG for B2B sourcing by buyers in Saudi Arabia. It is intended for procurement teams, distributors and appliance OEM buyers in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or other Saudi locations whose drawing, BOM or existing wire specification calls for 18 AWG Style 1007.

Style 1007 is a single conductor with extruded PVC insulation, rated 80°C and 300 Vac, with a Horizontal Flame rating. Its conductor range is 32 AWG–16 AWG, and 18 AWG falls within that range. The official Use is “Internal wiring of appliances.” This page treats 18 AWG as a conductor-size requirement only. The Style record does not assign a circuit function, a market position or a default status to any AWG size.

Nine points to clarify about the table above:

  1. 18 AWG is the page-specific procurement size and lies inside the verified 32 AWG–16 AWG Style range.
  2. The Style range defines what can be qualified. It is not an inventory list, and availability of an 18 AWG construction is confirmed per enquiry.
  3. Solid and stranded are both Style-level possibilities. This page does not preset either form.
  4. Conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter and lay construction are not defined by the Style and must be confirmed for the ordered construction.
  5. 15 mil minimum average and 13 mil minimum at any point are two independent minimum requirements. They are not nominal values.
  6. The Oil rating is optional, and a 60°C or 80°C Oil requirement must be stated in the RFQ.
  7. 600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only is an optional tag, not the normal voltage rating, which remains 300 Vac.
  8. Finished OD, conductor resistance, metric cross-section and ampacity are not defined by the Style.
  9. The table summarizes verified Style data plus the page-specific size. It is not a verbatim reproduction of an official record.

What 18 AWG Establishes in a Style 1007 Specification

Naming 18 AWG fixes the conductor size, and nothing beyond that. The Style record contains no statement that 18 AWG is the most common Style 1007 size, a default harness size, or a preferred size for any appliance category. No evidence supplied for this page supports such market claims, so none are made.

18 AWG does not classify the wire as a power lead, a signal lead, a motor lead or a control-board conductor. It also does not establish a current-carrying capacity. The Style gives no ampacity for any size, and none is inferred here from 18 AWG, the 80°C rating or the 300 Vac rating. When an appliance drawing places 18 AWG Style 1007 in a particular internal circuit, the circuit function and any current requirement come from that drawing and the equipment design behind it.

18 AWG is also not converted into a metric figure on this page. If a Saudi specification controls cross-section in mm², that value is recorded as a buyer requirement and checked against the actual conductor construction offered, rather than taken from a generic AWG conversion.

Conductor Construction Left Open by the Style

At Style level, the conductor information consists of the size range and the words “Solid or Stranded”. Everything else about the 18 AWG conductor is a construction choice to be specified and confirmed:

  • solid or stranded form
  • conductor material
  • plating or surface finish
  • strand count and strand diameter, where stranded and controlled
  • lay construction
  • maximum conductor resistance, where controlled

Descriptions such as “stranded tinned copper” or a named stranding class belong to a specific SKU datasheet, not to Style 1007. Without that datasheet for the proposed 18 AWG construction, this page does not state them and makes no solderability or flexibility claim tied to a conductor that has not been identified. Resistance values from generic copper tables or from other manufacturers’ datasheets are not used as product data.

PVC Insulation Requirement

Style 1007 insulation is extruded PVC. The wall must satisfy two conditions together:

  • an average thickness of at least 15 mil
  • a thickness of at least 13 mil at every point around the conductor

These are floor values. The Style sets no nominal or exact wall.

No universal finished OD can be derived for 18 AWG Style 1007. Actual OD depends on:

  • conductor material
  • solid or stranded form
  • strand construction and actual conductor diameter
  • PVC extrusion
  • manufacturing tolerance

Adding a generic 18 AWG diameter to the minimum wall does not produce a valid product dimension. Where terminal entry, grommet fit or routing clearance is controlled, state a maximum finished OD and OD tolerance in the RFQ.

The PVC description is not extended to lead-free, halogen-free or LSZH terminology. PVC contains chlorine, and other material claims require separate evidence for a separately qualified construction.

Ratings, Optional Oil and the Peak Tag

80°C: This is the Style 1007 temperature rating, stated without a duty qualifier. No service life is derived from it.

300 Vac: This is the normal voltage rating. The Style record provides no DC rating.

Horizontal Flame: This is the verified flame designation. VW-1, FT1, vertical flame, fire-resistant and similar descriptions are not part of the Style record.

Oil: The 60°C or 80°C Oil rating is optional. It applies only where it is specified and confirmed for the ordered construction, and its temperature is separate from the 80°C Style rating.

Tag: Tags may indicate “600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only.” Whenever the tag is cited, both “Peak” and “For Electronic Use Only” stay attached. The tag neither replaces the 300 Vac rating nor changes the official Use.

Hook-Up Wire Terminology and the Official Use

“Hook-up wire” is the commercial term many buyers use when searching for Style 1007. The formal Use remains “Internal wiring of appliances.” Neither the commercial term nor a Saudi destination extends that Use to building, branch-circuit, facility, tray or conduit wiring, external equipment wiring, or infrastructure installation.

A Saudi appliance OEM may request 18 AWG Style 1007 for an internal harness or an internal connection where its drawing specifies that construction. This page does not claim that any appliance type, such as refrigerators, washing machines or air conditioners, uses this construction as a rule.

Compliance of a finished product is established at the equipment level and is not conferred by the Style designation of one internal wire. This applies to UL 508A for industrial control panels, IEC 60204 for machinery, and medical, telecom or UPS equipment requirements alike.

Saudi Arabia Procurement and Documentation

Saudi Arabia is the regional sourcing market for this page. Typical enquiries come from Saudi procurement teams supplying an existing BOM, from distributors requesting a defined 18 AWG Style 1007 construction, and from OEM buyers sourcing qualified internal wire, with Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or another Saudi city or port as the destination. CableApex also handles export enquiries for other markets, but this page addresses Saudi 18 AWG sourcing.

No named Saudi development programme or company is cited as evidence of demand or use. Style 1007 recognition does not by itself demonstrate conformity of a finished product for the Saudi market. If a Saudi standard, tender or conformity programme applies, the buyer should state the exact requirement and the documents needed so they can be reviewed separately.

Origin documentation also depends on the transaction. Preferential certificates of origin are tied to the specific trade agreement that covers a shipment, so a certificate format used for another trade route is not presented as a standard Saudi document. The buyer should state the certificate of origin type and any customs documents required.

Bulk Wire Versus Processed Leads

This page represents Style 1007 single-conductor wire supplied as bulk wire. Supply does not automatically include cutting, stripping, crimping, terminals, connectors, finished appliance harnesses or any other processed lead. Processing requirements must be specified separately, with lengths, termination details and drawings.

What Style 1007 Does and Does Not Define

Style 1007 defines:

  • 80°C temperature rating and 300 Vac normal voltage rating
  • Horizontal Flame
  • optional 60°C or 80°C Oil
  • conductor range 32 AWG–16 AWG, solid or stranded
  • extruded PVC, 15 mil minimum average / 13 mil minimum at any point
  • Marking: General
  • Use: Internal wiring of appliances.
  • optional tag: 600 V Peak – For Electronic Use Only

Style 1007 does not universally define:

  • conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter or lay length
  • a product-specific 18 AWG cross-section in mm², conductor resistance, finished OD or OD tolerance
  • ampacity or current rating
  • market popularity or default harness status of any AWG
  • motor-lead, control-board, power-lead or signal-lead suitability
  • UL 508A or IEC 60204 compliance
  • medical or telecom suitability
  • colour, reel length, MOQ, stock, lead time, production capacity or shipping term

Common Procurement Errors

  • Describing 18 AWG as the most common or default Style 1007 size.
  • Specifying “80°C continuous” instead of the 80°C rating.
  • Assuming 18 AWG Style 1007 is always stranded, always tinned copper, or of a particular stranding class.
  • Using a generic 18 AWG mm², Ω/km or finished OD value as SKU data.
  • Inferring a current rating from 18 AWG and 80°C.
  • Listing only part of the Style range, for example starting it at 26 AWG instead of 32 AWG.
  • Omitting the 13 mil minimum-at-any-point requirement.
  • Treating the optional Oil rating as standard.
  • Using 600 V Peak as the normal voltage rating, or dropping “For Electronic Use Only”.
  • Treating Style 1007 recognition as panel, machinery or Saudi market conformity.
  • Assuming a fixed document set, including a preferential origin certificate, applies to every Saudi shipment.
  • Assuming an 18 AWG construction in every colour is stocked.
