UL 3304 200°C 10000V Silicone Fiberglass Braid Wire for Gas Range Ignition
This page covers UL AWM Style 3304, a single conductor with extruded SR silicone insulation and a fiberglass braid covering, rated 200°C and 10000 Vac under the AWM Style system. It is written for appliance and burner OEM engineering and procurement teams whose drawing, BOM or ignition wiring specification calls for Style 3304.
The conductor range is 22 AWG–12 AWG, solid or stranded round, the flame designation is Horizontal Flame, and Marking is General. The official Use is specific: “Internal Wiring of Electronic Ignition or similar application in Gas Ranges or Gas or Fuel Oil Burner Systems where protected from damage during handling, installation and servicing of the appliance.”
The construction is deliberately simple — one insulation layer and one braid — and the insulation wall is substantial for the conductor sizes involved. Both points shape how an enquiry should be written, and both are set out below alongside what the Style leaves open.

Nine points to clarify about the table above:
- The voltage rating is 10000 Vac. It is an AC rating for the wire, and the record gives no DC rating.
- The insulation carries two independent requirements: a 40 mil minimum average and a 36 mil minimum at any point. Neither is a nominal wall.
- The construction is one extruded insulation layer plus a fiberglass braid. The record describes no second insulation layer over the braid.
- The covering is stated as a fiberglass braid. No other covering type and no additional jacket is part of this Style record.
- The conductor is specified as round, solid or stranded, across 22 AWG–12 AWG. Sizes outside that range are outside the Style.
- Conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter and lay length are not defined by the Style.
- The flame designation is Horizontal Flame. No VW-1 or other vertical flame designation appears in the record.
- Finished OD, OD tolerance, conductor resistance, bend radius and ampacity are not defined by the Style.
- The Style range is not a stock list, and availability of a given construction is confirmed per enquiry.
Insulation: 40 mil Minimum Average and 36 mil Minimum at Any Point
The insulation is extruded SR silicone, and the wall must satisfy two conditions together: an average thickness of at least 40 mils, and a thickness of at least 36 mils at every point around the conductor. These are floor values, and the second is not a tolerance on the first.
On a 22 AWG or 18 AWG conductor a wall of this order is a large proportion of the finished diameter, which makes the next point practical. Minimum wall values do not produce a finished outer diameter: actual OD depends on the conductor material and form, the actual conductor diameter, the silicone extrusion, the braid construction and manufacturing tolerance. Adding a generic AWG conductor diameter to the minimum wall does not give a valid product dimension. Where boot fit, bushing entry or routing clearance is controlled, state a maximum finished OD and OD tolerance in the RFQ so the proposed construction can be checked against it.
The record also states no thickness or construction detail for the fiberglass braid, and assigns it no function. This page therefore does not describe the braid as providing mechanical protection, abrasion resistance, improved flame behaviour or any dielectric contribution. It is a construction element of the Style, not a performance feature, and it does not satisfy the protection condition in the official Use.

The 10000 Vac Rating
The Style voltage rating is 10000 Vac. It describes the wire rather than an ignition system, a transformer output or an appliance circuit, so this page does not state that Style 3304 covers any particular ignition voltage, spark energy or transformer secondary rating. Those are equipment design matters determined against the appliance’s own specification.
The rating is not restated as a DC value, and no peak, pulse or impulse figure is derived from it. The 200°C temperature rating is stated without a duty qualifier, so this page does not describe it as continuous and derives no service life, thermal cycling count or thermal margin from it. The flame designation is Horizontal Flame; VW-1, FT1, vertical flame and fire-resistant descriptions are not part of this record.
Conductor Range and Construction
The Style covers 22 AWG through 12 AWG, solid or stranded round. Listings that show a wider span describe sizes the Style does not cover, and an enquiry built on such a listing will not match a qualified Style 3304 construction.
The Style does not define conductor material or finish, so copper, tinned copper, bare copper, nickel-plated copper and silver-plated copper are constructions a buyer may specify rather than properties this page can assert. Strand count, strand diameter, lay construction and any maximum conductor resistance are RFQ fields, and no stranding class or flexibility grade is applied here.
Conductor size assigns no circuit function or current capacity. The record gives no ampacity, and none is inferred from conductor size, the temperature rating or the voltage rating. Current-carrying capacity is evaluated through the buyer’s equipment design and the applicable approval process.
Official Use and the Protection Condition
The official Use is “Internal Wiring of Electronic Ignition or similar application in Gas Ranges or Gas or Fuel Oil Burner Systems where protected from damage during handling, installation and servicing of the appliance.”
Three elements shape how the Style is specified. The Use is internal wiring, within the appliance rather than external to it. The application category is electronic ignition or similar application in gas ranges or gas or fuel oil burner systems. And the condition is that the wire is protected from damage during handling, installation and servicing of the appliance, which is satisfied by the appliance design and assembly practice rather than by the silicone wall or the fiberglass braid.
The Use is bounded accordingly. This page does not extend it to general high voltage wiring, automotive ignition leads, X-ray, laser, electrostatic, plasma or high voltage power supply wiring, industrial furnace wiring, building wiring or field cable. Buyers sometimes enquire from adjacent contexts and an enquiry can always be reviewed against the drawing, but those contexts do not become approved uses. Compliance of a finished appliance or burner system is established at the equipment level and is not conferred by the Style designation of one internal wire.

How to Specify UL 3304
A Style designation is a construction requirement, not a complete purchase specification. A complete enquiry adds:
- the UL AWM Style 3304 requirement
- the AWG within 22 AWG–12 AWG
- solid or stranded round conductor
- conductor material and plating, where controlled by the drawing
- strand construction and maximum conductor resistance, where controlled
- insulation colour and any identification requirement
- the marking requirement
- maximum OD and OD tolerance, where controlled
- the ignition wiring location within the appliance or burner system, and how the wire is protected during handling, installation and servicing
- the drawing, BOM or equipment specification
- documentation requirements, quantity and packaging preference
- the destination and the requested Incoterm
No price, currency, pricing formula or price validity period is published on this page. A quotation is prepared against a defined construction and commercial scope and issued as a separate quotation document.
What Style 3304 Does and Does Not Define
Style 3304 defines:
- 200°C temperature rating and 10000 Vac voltage rating
- Horizontal Flame
- a single conductor with extruded insulation

Style 3304 does not universally define:
- conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter or lay length
- braid thickness, construction or performance
- any second insulation layer or jacket over the braid
- finished OD, OD tolerance, bend radius, flex cycles or flex class
- conductor resistance, ampacity or current rating

Common Procurement Errors
- Writing “200°C continuous”, or adding a duty qualifier to the temperature rating.
- Restating 10000 Vac as a DC, peak or impulse value.
- Treating the wire rating as an ignition system, transformer or spark energy specification.
- Omitting the 36 mil minimum-at-any-point requirement, or treating 40 mil as a nominal wall.
- Deriving a finished OD from the minimum wall values.
- Attributing mechanical protection or abrasion resistance to the fiberglass braid.
- Assuming a second insulation layer or jacket over the braid.
- Extending the conductor range beyond 22 AWG–12 AWG.
- Assuming the conductor is tinned copper, or that all Style 3304 is stranded.
- Deriving ampacity from conductor size or the ratings.
- Presenting the wire for automotive ignition, high voltage power supply or industrial furnace wiring as an approved use.
- Relying on the construction instead of protecting the wire during handling, installation and servicing.
- Substituting another ignition Style because its ratings appear compatible.
