UL 1332 FEP wire for transformer internal wiring heat resistant

UL AWM Style 1332 18 AWG FEP wire, rated 200°C and 300 Vac, extruded FEP insulation at 13 mils minimum average / 12 mils minimum at any point, solid or stranded round conductor, Horizontal flame, for internal wiring of appliances. Commonly specified for transformer lead connections — not magnet or winding wire. Optional covering and optional oil / gasoline resistance available where specifically qualified. Conductor material, plating, colour, and finished OD should be confirmed for the ordered construction.

UL 1332 18 AWG FEP Wire for Transformer Lead Connections

UL AWM Style 1332 18 AWG FEP wire, rated 200°C and 300 Vac, is a specific conductor-size configuration within Style 1332’s broader 30 AWG–10 AWG range, commonly specified for transformer lead connections within appliance internal wiring — the leads that connect a transformer’s terminals to other internal components, not the winding wire inside the transformer itself. This page focuses on the 18 AWG SKU — its confirmed FEP insulation requirement, application boundary, and what still needs to be specified in an RFQ — rather than a general overview of the full Style 1332 range.

13/12 Mil FEP Insulation at 18 AWG

The confirmed insulation requirement for UL 1332 is extruded FEP at 13 mils minimum average thickness and 12 mils minimum thickness at any point, applying across the Style’s 30–10 AWG range — this page does not invent a different thickness specific to 18 AWG, since the Style’s insulation requirement is not tiered by conductor size group. This page does not convert this figure into an invented finished outside diameter — conductor geometry and manufacturing tolerances are order-specific.

Transformer Lead Connections — Not Magnet or Winding Wire

This distinction matters. UL 1332 18 AWG FEP wire, as covered on this page, is intended for transformer lead connections — the external leads that connect a transformer’s terminals to a PCB, terminal block, or other internal component within the appliance assembly. This page does not describe UL 1332 as magnet wire, winding wire, or enamel-insulated wire used inside a transformer core, and does not claim any winding-specific properties such as enamel build, dielectric breakdown for turn-to-turn insulation, or thermal class ratings used in magnet-wire specifications. If your project requires magnet or winding wire, that is a different product category entirely.

Optional Covering and Resistance Ratings

UL Style 1332 permits an optional covering over the FEP-insulated conductor — either extruded FEP at 2 mils or heavier, or glass braid at 7 mils or heavier — and optional Oil Resistant 80°C and Gasoline Resistant ratings. None of these are standard on every UL 1332 18 AWG order; this page does not describe every unit as covered, oil resistant, or gasoline resistant by default. If your transformer assembly may be exposed to oil, gasoline, or vapor, state the environment in your RFQ so the applicable ordered construction can be confirmed.

What UL 1332 Does Not Automatically Define

The Style data does not automatically define: conductor material, plating, strand count, strand diameter, conductor resistance, current rating, ampacity, finished OD, bend radius, flexibility class, standard colour, transformer power rating, stock, MOQ, lead time, reel length, or production capacity. These are RFQ fields unless separately documented — none of them are invented on this page.

18 AWG Does Not Establish Current-Carrying Capacity

This page does not publish a generic ampacity simply because the product is 18 AWG. Current suitability depends on the actual conductor construction, equipment design, ambient conditions, routing, termination, and end-product evaluation. The UL 1332 Style data does not itself establish a universal 18 AWG current rating.
