UL 3666 in 8 AWG for Saudi Arabia and UAE Sourcing
UL AWM Style 3666 is an insulated wire rated 105°C and 600 Vac with Horizontal Flame. The conductor is solid or stranded round, tinned or bare copper, across a Style range of 32 AWG through 1000 kcmil, with XLPE insulation.
This page is positioned around one conductor size: 8 AWG. That is not an arbitrary split. The official Style insulation table gives 8 AWG its own row — 45 mils minimum average with 40 mils minimum at any point — separate from the groups either side of it.
The commercial context is B2B sourcing into Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Those are markets, not applications: the destination does not change the Style, the ratings or the Use.
The official Use is internal wiring where not subjected to mechanical abuse. Both halves of that sentence apply throughout this page.

Four points belong with that table. This page focuses specifically on 8 AWG. The full Style range describes permitted construction scope and is not an inventory statement. 9 AWG has no thickness row in the Style table and must not be inferred from the rows around it. And Saudi Arabia and the UAE are sourcing markets rather than separate UL applications.
8 AWG Has Its Own Insulation Row
Most AWM Styles group several conductor sizes under one insulation requirement. Style 3666 does that too — but 8 AWG is the exception, sitting alone between the 32–10 AWG group and the 7–2 AWG group.
The requirement for 8 AWG is 45 mils minimum average with 40 mils minimum at any point. That is a single-size row, and it is the reason this page exists as a size-specific page rather than as a slice of the Style range.
The practical consequence at RFQ stage is that 8 AWG cannot be quoted from either neighbouring group. A construction built to the 32–10 AWG figures is not an 8 AWG construction, and neither is one built to the 7–2 AWG figures.
45 and 40 Mils Are Minimum Requirements
The two figures are separate requirements. The first governs the average across the wall; the second sets a floor at every individual point on it.
Neither is a nominal value. The requirement is not a 45 mil nominal wall, not an exact 45 mil wall, not a 45/40 mil nominal specification and not an exact metric equivalent presented as though the Style supplies one dimension. A compliant construction satisfies both minimums without producing a single fixed figure.
Because of that, no finished outside diameter follows from these numbers either — a point the dimensional section returns to.
The 9 AWG Gap
The verified table reads 32–10 AWG, then 8 AWG, then 7–2 AWG. There is no 9 AWG row.
That gap is not closed here by any of the three tempting shortcuts: the 8 AWG row is not rewritten as 9–8 AWG, 9 AWG is not folded into the 32–10 AWG group, and 9 AWG is not folded into the 7–2 AWG group.
Where a buyer requests 9 AWG, the applicable qualified construction must be confirmed before the insulation wall can be specified. That is a real answer rather than an evasion — the Style data supplied does not contain the row.
Style Range Is Not Stock Range
The verified Style range is 32 AWG through 1000 kcmil. That describes the construction scope the Style permits.
It does not indicate that every listed size is stocked or routinely supplied, and no statement to that effect appears here. Commercial availability of any particular size, conductor construction and colour combination is confirmed at RFQ.
The broad Style range is included above for technical accuracy. The procurement role of this page remains 8 AWG.

Conductor Material Is Defined by This Style
Style 3666 is unusual among AWM Styles in fixing the conductor material at Style level: tinned or bare copper, solid or stranded round.
That is a verified technical fact and is stated as one here. Two consequences follow.
First, the permitted materials are those two. Silver-plated copper, nickel-plated copper, copper-clad aluminium and aluminium are not Style 3666 conductor options and are not introduced here.
Second, tinned and bare are alternatives rather than a single default. Where a buyer’s drawing controls the conductor finish, the RFQ should state whether tinned copper or bare copper is required, because both are compliant and the Style does not choose between them.
Solid or Stranded Round
Both conductor forms are permitted, so Style 3666 is not described here as stranded-only.
The wire is also not described as flexible, high-flex or extra-flexible. The Style establishes no flex class, flex-cycle rating or bend radius, and none is invented.
Detailed stranding is a separate matter again. Style 3666 provides no universal strand count, strand diameter, lay length or conductor diameter, so no 8 AWG strand construction is published here — not 19 strands, not 37, not 133, not any other figure. Where the drawing controls stranding, it is an RFQ field.
No Universal Ampacity or Motor Rating
No current rating is published for Style 3666 in 8 AWG. UL AWM Style 3666 Product iQ provides no universal ampacity, and none is calculated here.
So no free-air capacity, continuous current, circuit-range figure or recommended load appears on this page. Actual current capability depends on the complete equipment design — the conductor construction, the installation, the ambient temperature, bundling, the equipment layout and the applicable engineering rules — none of which a Style number settles.
The same applies to motor power. No kW range is associated with 8 AWG here, and no motor sizing is derived from an assumed ampacity. Conductor selection for a motor circuit belongs to the equipment design.
No Universal Conductor Resistance
No conductor resistance value is published. Style 3666 provides no universal 8 AWG resistance figure, and no value is substituted from generic AWG tables, code tables, online calculators or other manufacturers’ data.
Where a project controls conductor resistance, the requirement should be stated in the RFQ and confirmed against the applicable qualified construction.
Finished OD Is Not Derived From the Wall
Style 3666 provides insulation-wall minimums. It does not provide one universal finished outside diameter, and no OD is calculated here by combining a nominal 8 AWG conductor diameter with the minimum insulation wall.
Actual finished OD depends on the solid or stranded conductor form, the actual conductor construction, the actual conductor diameter, the XLPE extrusion and manufacturing tolerance.
For dimension-controlled projects — where the wire has to pass a gland, a terminal entry or a routing channel — the RFQ should state the maximum finished OD, the OD tolerance, the terminal entry and the routing clearance. Those are buyer-supplied constraints, checked against the ordered construction.

XLPE Insulation
The verified insulation is XLPE, also written as cross-linked polyethylene.
No compound-specific performance is attributed to it here. Deformation behaviour at rated temperature, thermal stability relative to other materials, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and service life are not established by the Style record, and the fact that a material is XLPE does not by itself support comparative performance claims.
This page is also not an XLPE-versus-PVC comparison. Different AWM Styles are evaluated on their own temperature rating, voltage rating, construction, Use and the equipment specification, and no Style is described here as an upgrade from another.
105°C and 600 Vac
The verified temperature rating is 105°C. It is stated here without a continuity qualifier — not 105°C continuous, not continuous-duty, not a continuous operating life — because the Style record states 105°C and nothing further. No thermal-aging life is inferred.
The verified voltage rating is 600 Vac. It is not written as 600 Vdc, 600V AC/DC, 600V DC or 600/750V. The supplied Style data establishes no separate DC rating for Style 3666.
Horizontal Flame
The verified Style designation is Horizontal Flame. VW-1 is not claimed here, nor are FT1, vertical flame, flameproof or fire-resistant characterisations.
Where a project specification requires VW-1 or another flame classification, that depends on separate confirmation for the specific ordered construction rather than on the Style designation.
Internal Wiring Where Not Subjected to Mechanical Abuse
The official Use has two parts, and the second is as binding as the first.
Style 3666 is broader than an appliance-only Style — the Use names no equipment category — but it retains a mechanical-abuse boundary. Saying only “internal wiring” omits half of what the Use states.
The Style is therefore not repositioned here as general power cable, building wire, field wiring, branch-circuit wire, portable cord, tray cable, conduit wire or external equipment cable, and no exposed installation is implied as permitted.
Where an equipment installation could expose the wire to damage during normal use, installation or servicing, the buyer evaluates the applicable wiring method. No protective requirement is invented here.
Equipment Contexts
Buyer contexts for this size and Style may include internal equipment wiring, internal power leads, motor-related internal equipment connections, control-enclosure internal wiring and OEM electrical equipment internal leads.
Each is an example of an internal equipment context where the wiring is not subjected to mechanical abuse and where the equipment design specifies Style 3666. None is a separately UL-approved application, and no equipment type — motor control centre, drive, transformer, uninterruptible power supply, inverter, generator set or HVAC unit — is separately approved through this Style.
No generic application list implying universal suitability appears here.
Saudi Arabia and UAE Sourcing
This page addresses B2B buyers sourcing Style 3666 in 8 AWG into Saudi Arabia and the UAE: OEM buyers, equipment manufacturers, electrical-component distributors and industrial procurement teams.
Geographic wording here is commercial sourcing context. It does not change the UL Style, the ratings or the Use, and no local project approvals, named end users or established local customer usage are claimed.
What the destination does affect is the commercial side of the RFQ — the port, the city, the Incoterm, the packaging and the documentation set — which is why those appear as buyer-supplied fields rather than as published terms.
Commercial Terms Are Confirmed per Enquiry
No minimum order quantity, stock position, lead time, production capacity, quotation response time, fixed Incoterm, fixed port or certificate availability is published on this page. None of those is a Style 3666 parameter.
For commercial confirmation, buyers should provide the quantity, the destination country and city or port, the requested Incoterm, the packaging requirement and the documentation requirements. Shipping arrangements are confirmed at quotation stage.
Insulation colour is treated the same way. No fixed colour list is published as automatically available for every order; the required colour is an RFQ field confirmed for the ordered construction.
Bulk Wire and Processed Leads
This page primarily represents UL AWM Style 3666 insulated wire.
Nothing here implies that supply automatically includes cutting, stripping, crimping, terminals, connectors or complete harnesses. Where processed leads are required, those requirements are separately specified and confirmed — and stating which is needed in the first enquiry avoids quoting the wrong scope.
What Style 3666 Does Not Define
- Strand count, strand diameter, lay length and conductor diameter
- Conductor resistance
- Finished OD and OD tolerance
- Ampacity, current rating and motor kW
- Bend radius and flex life
- Terminal compatibility and crimp performance
- Colour availability and cut length
- MOQ, stock, lead time, production capacity and shipping term
Tinned or bare copper and solid or stranded round are not on that list — both are defined by the Style and are stated as verified facts above.
Common Procurement Errors
- Using a 30 AWG–4/0 AWG Style range. The verified range is 32 AWG–1000 kcmil.
- Assuming 8 AWG shares the 7–2 AWG wall group. 8 AWG has its own row.
- Assigning 9 AWG to an adjacent group. The table has no 9 AWG row.
- Calling 45 mil a nominal wall. It is a minimum average.
- Assuming all Style 3666 wire is stranded. Solid round is equally permitted.
- Forgetting that tinned and bare copper are both permitted. Neither is a default.
- Publishing 40A as a universal Style ampacity. The Style provides none.
- Deriving motor kW from wire size alone.
- Publishing one finished OD.
- Writing 105°C as “105°C continuous”.
- Claiming VW-1 when only Horizontal Flame is verified.
- Using Style 3666 as field or building wiring.
- Ignoring the “not subjected to mechanical abuse” condition.
- Treating the full Style range as stocked inventory.
