This page covers UL AWM Style 1007 supplied at 24 AWG with a selected stranded-copper construction. UL Style 1007 permits either solid or stranded conductor across its scope, so stranded is a construction choice on this page rather than a Style requirement. The bare or tinned conductor finish is likewise confirmed according to the ordered construction.

The full UL Style 1007 range is 32 AWG through 16 AWG, rated 80°C at 300 Vac with extruded PVC insulation at 15 mils minimum average and 13 mils minimum at any point. The 600 V Peak statement is an optional tag marking for electronic-use conditions rather than the working voltage rating. The normal rating is 300 Vac.

Specifying 24 AWG

24 AWG is selected when the equipment design, the electrical requirement, the available routing space and the termination system in use specifically call for this conductor size. None of these is established by the conductor size alone, and current-carrying requirements in particular should be confirmed against the applicable engineering data for the equipment rather than inferred from the Style rating.

Where 24 AWG is confirmed, the remaining construction detail is settled at order stage. The UL Style file defines the insulation and the conductor size range but not the conductor material, finish or strand construction:

  • Solid or stranded. Both are within the UL Style 1007 scope. This page covers the stranded construction; solid is available where the routing path is fixed and the termination method accommodates it.
  • Conductor finish. Bare or tinned copper is confirmed during quotation, and is normally driven by the termination process used in the assembly.
  • Strand construction. Where your assembly requires a specific strand configuration, specify it at enquiry so it can be confirmed against production capability.

Appliance Internal Wiring Applications

The UL Style 1007 file states the use as internal wiring of appliances. At 24 AWG, 80°C and 300 Vac, this construction is typically specified for:

  • Protected internal appliance interconnections within the appliance housing
  • Appliance switch and terminal leads at internal connection points
  • Compact internal routing inside appliance assemblies where the available channel space suits a fine-gauge construction
  • OEM appliance production where 24 AWG is a repeated internal lead size across the build

UL Style 1007 is not supplied or positioned as field wiring, building wire, external wiring, industrial control wiring, general wiring harness cable, motor lead wire or power cable. Suitability for a specific appliance design depends on the equipment, the routing arrangement, the ordered construction and the applicable equipment-level evaluation — not on the temperature and voltage ratings being sufficient on their own.

Production Notes for Harness Processing

UL 1007 24 AWG wire can be supplied for OEM harness production where the finished assembly uses the wire as appliance internal wiring. Where harness processing is part of your operation, the following points are relevant:

  • Stripping. Consistent PVC extrusion can support repeatable stripping during confirmed production runs. Confirm the insulation dimensions so stripper settings can be calibrated to the actual ordered construction, particularly at fine gauges where blade clearance is tight.
  • Cutting. Fixed-length cutting can be arranged where the assembly uses repeated lead lengths. Specify the required tolerance at enquiry.
  • Crimping. Confirm the terminal hardware so the conductor construction can be checked against the crimp barrel range for the selected terminals.
  • Soldering. Where soldering is part of the process, a tinned conductor finish should be specified at the order stage.
  • Stranded conductor. Stranded construction may be preferred where routing and termination flexibility are important during harness processing.
  • Colour identification. High-mix harness builds typically require several colours. Send the colour list with quantity per colour rather than a single total.
  • Reel and spool supply. Confirm the format and length your assembly line works with.

Supplying wire for harness production does not change the Style boundary — the finished assembly must be used as appliance internal wiring.

Optional Oil Construction

UL Style 1007 permits an optional 60°C or 80°C Oil construction. Not all UL 1007 24 AWG wire carries this — where oil performance is required at the wire location, the optional construction must be specified at enquiry, and it depends on the qualified ordered construction. Confirm the requirement and the applicable marking before production.
