UL AWM Style 5334 is a single conductor with other-than-extruded insulation, defined under UL Subject 758. The conductor is insulated with non-extruded composite mica glass and covered with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or TFE finish. The Style is rated 450°C at 300 Vac across a conductor range of 24 AWG to 4 AWG, in solid or stranded construction. An optional stainless steel alloy 304 braid may be applied over the treated glass braid.
Mica-based insulation systems occupy the top of the AWM temperature range because mica is an inorganic mineral rather than a polymer — it does not soften, melt or thermally decompose in the way that silicone rubber or fluoropolymer insulation eventually does at sustained high temperature. That is what allows a 450°C Style rating. The trade-off is that a non-extruded mica construction behaves differently in handling from an extruded wire, and the UL file attaches a specific use boundary to it: wiring of ovens or similar high-temperature equipment, where protected from mechanical abuse.

24–4 AWG Construction Options
The UL Style range is 24 AWG through 4 AWG, in solid or stranded construction. The insulation thickness requirements fall into two groups: at 24 through 12 AWG the minimum average composite mica glass thickness is 17 mils with a 5 mils minimum average treated glass braid; at 11 through 4 AWG the mica increases to 20 mils with a 10 mils minimum average braid. These are the only fixed Style-level dimensions.
Finished outside diameter is a property of the manufactured construction rather than of the Style, and depends on the conductor stranding, the number of mica layers applied, the braid build and whether the optional stainless steel braid is specified. It is confirmed for the specific order rather than published as a fixed figure. The table below sets out what needs to be settled before an order can be placed.

Wiring of Ovens and High-Temperature Equipment
The UL Style 5334 file states the use as wiring of ovens or similar high-temperature equipment where protected from mechanical abuse, and where the acceptability, including current-carrying capacity, has been determined by Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
Two conditions in that statement carry weight in specification. The first is the protection requirement: the wire path must be protected from mechanical abuse along its full routed length by the equipment structure. The second is the acceptability determination — the Style rating alone does not establish that a given construction is acceptable for a given installation, including its current-carrying capacity at the operating temperature. That determination is made for the applicable equipment and the specific ordered construction.
Buyers should confirm that the intended use falls within this boundary before specifying UL 5334. It is not building wire, field wiring, or general external power cable, and it should not be specified where the wire would be exposed to mechanical abuse.

Optional Stainless Steel Alloy 304 Braid
The UL Style 5334 file permits an optional stainless steel braid, alloy 304, applied over the treated glass braid. This is an optional construction rather than a standard feature, and it must be specified at the enquiry stage — it changes the construction, the production process and the finished dimensions of the wire.
Where the equipment design calls for this outer braid, confirm the requirement together with the AWG and conductor specification so that the resulting finished dimensions can be established for the routing and termination hardware in the assembly.
