Composite Mica Glass Insulation for Compact Oven and Kiln Internal Wiring

UL Style 5334 is a single-conductor appliance wiring material (AWM) insulated with non-extruded composite mica glass and covered with a glass braid treated with silicone varnish or TFE finish. Rated for 450°C continuous operation at 300V AC with a horizontal-flame rating, the style covers conductor sizes from 24 AWG to 4 AWG in solid or stranded construction. An optional stainless steel alloy 304 shield braid is available over the treated glass braid for applications requiring electromagnetic shielding. CableApex supplies UL 5334 wire as a UL Recognized Component — file on record — meeting the full dimensional and performance requirements of UL 758 AWM.

UL 5334 is specified under UL Subject 758 for wiring of ovens or similar high-temperature equipment where the wire is protected from mechanical abuse. Its thinner composite mica glass wall — 17 mils for 24–12 AWG versus 25 mils for UL 5107 at the same gauge — produces a more compact overall diameter at 450°C service, which is the primary reason Vietnamese and Indonesian kiln and oven builders select 5334 for space-constrained internal wiring channels. The trade-off is a lower 300V voltage rating compared with the 600V rating of UL 5107 and UL 5335.

Conductor & Dimension Reference

UL 5334 covers 24 AWG through 4 AWG. Nickel-plated copper is recommended for sustained operation at or near 450°C, as bare copper oxidises rapidly above 300°C. AWG is the primary sizing reference.

Applications in Vietnam and Indonesia

Vietnam and Indonesia’s industrial heating equipment sectors — tunnel kilns for ceramics, continuous annealing furnaces, textile and food dryers, and flat panel heater assemblies — regularly require 450°C internal wiring that fits through narrow routing channels inside the equipment structure. The combination of 450°C mica insulation and a compact overall diameter is what drives specification of UL 5334 in these markets.

  • Kiln car internal wiring (Vietnam — Bình Dương ceramics): Tunnel kiln cars carry heating element connections through narrow rectangular refractory channels. UL 5334’s thinner wall construction reduces the overall wire diameter, helping it pass through cast refractory conduit slots where a thicker 5107 construction would not fit without enlarging the channel and compromising insulation integrity.
  • Flat panel heater assemblies (Indonesia — Bekasi / Tangerang / Surabaya): Indonesian OEMs assembling infrared and resistive flat panel heaters route internal wiring against the panel surface from element terminals to edge connectors. UL 5334’s compact diameter keeps the wire harness within the panel thickness envelope at the mounting points.
  • Furnace insulation penetrations (Vietnam and Indonesia): When rewiring existing furnaces, replacement wire must pass through penetration points whose dimensions were set at the design stage. UL 5334’s smaller OD at the same AWG allows routing through existing slots without insulation rework.
  • Conveyor oven heated zones (Vietnam — food processing): Internal wiring routed along belt support structure in the heated chamber where space between the conveyor frame and the oven wall is limited.
  • Multi-zone furnace harnesses (Indonesia — industrial OEM): Compact wiring assemblies connecting multiple heating zones in equipment where each zone’s wiring channel has a fixed cross-section determined at the furnace design stage.

UL 5334 vs Related 450°C Mica Insulated Styles

All three styles below share 450°C mica insulation, but differ in voltage rating, insulation wall thickness, and AWG coverage. The selection decision starts with the voltage requirement:
