UL 1659 PTFE Wire

UL 1659 is a PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene / TFE) insulated wire rated 250°C and 600V AC under UL AWM Style 1659, supplied as a UL Recognized Component — file on record. PTFE is the original fluoropolymer, and its 250°C continuous service temperature makes UL 1659 one of the highest-temperature fluoropolymer AWM options. It offers the broad chemical resistance characteristics typical of PTFE, subject to the buyer’s chemical exposure, concentration, temperature, and equipment design.

PTFE insulation is applied by paste-ram extrusion rather than melt extrusion, producing a slightly matte surface finish with strong dielectric and chemical-resistance characteristics. The low dielectric constant of PTFE (εr ≈ 2.1) can also suit signal wiring applications. UL 1659 is commonly selected for equipment internal wiring where PTFE insulation, a 250°C rating, and a 600V rating are required — for example in higher-temperature processing, laboratory, or instrumentation equipment, evaluated by the buyer for the specific application. For applications requiring a melt-processable fluoropolymer at the same temperature class, see UL 10362 PFA wire (PFA, 250°C, 600V). UL 1659 is available in 26 AWG to 4/0 AWG, with optional oil-resistant or gasoline-resistant markings when specified and confirmed. RoHS and REACH documentation is available on request.
